Caps/Canes game tonight. I'm 3 rows from the ice

Recommended Posts

This is the closest I will be to the action all season, have been in the lower level but row Q and P etc, tonight I am in section 100 row C, and I forgot my damn camera. I am back up to the 400's for the game on friday night, and the stupid 7pm starts mean I can't get home and pick it up in time.

Stupid forgetful me and stupid 7 instead of 7.30 starts

Taking quality pics at a hockey game is more difficult than you can imagine. I used to do it all the time at OHL games in the 80s. I have some great shots of Ricci on the Petes, Nolan on the Royals, Lindros on the Generals, etc. Its easy to get close to the boards. I have had a photo pass at MSG for Rangers and at Continental for Devils. In NHL buildings the lighting is nuts as you need wicked high speed film. In about 96 pix at MSG with Gretzky vs Canadiens, on one of them I hit it just right and captured the strobe lighting off another camera. Otherwise its hard to get pix bright enough. The last year at the Forum in Montreal I went to a game in february vs San Jose. The Forum security actually seized my camera during warmups and would not let me take pix! I tried to convince them I wasn't selling the pix but have you ever tried to discuss something serious with a Frenchman ()? I had to get my camera back after the game from security. It kind of ruined my last trip ever into the Forum.

My picture taking is generally not that great, but I have been about 15 rows back

Exhibit A: Caps / Pens

Exhibit B: Caps / Flyers

But I thought I would at least get some decent close ups, but tonight its not to be.

3 home games remaining for the caps, I am 3 rows from the ice tonight, and about 3 stories from the ice in the last 2, up in the 400's

3rd row for the recent panthers/lightning game:

Later I got to move up to the first row and got a couple good shots, but I only hosted a few pics so here's the last one I hosted from the game.

The best part of sitting that close is when a slap shot, or even a snap shot for that matter, comes in hard off the glass. Everyone but the few hockey players(that are used to watching the hard shots go off the glass) scream and duck, lol. Or goalies like myself try to catch it :-p

Looks like Richards wants you to take his sweet new stick :)

lol, yeah Marty isn't 5'9 like he's listed, he's a couple inches shorter.

5'9" while wearing skates atop a step ladder, maybe. :)

He's got some wheels, though.

OK, I wasn't actually 3 rows from the ice, I was front row, behind the canes bench. I took a couple of pics with my cell phone, anyone know how to upload them?

Also, being right behind the bench meant some obstructed views, but it was totally worth it for a one time experience.

Watching Laviolette call out the plans, see the assistant coaches looking for matchups and keeping an eye on the shifts.

Really cool, I damn near had the equipment guy talked into giving me a stick, but he didn't in the end

^umm what service provider do you have? Do you have pic/video messaging?

P.S. just adding to my bragging. I've gotten to sit 5 rows from ice, and then the panthers game 3rd row, then moved to 1st row. And 4 times in upper level for free this season :-D

nice pics.

And don't worry I don't think we're going to do well in the playoffs. Tort really didn't adapt his system for the new nhl and our defense has been shakey. But who knows, maybe we'll remember what it's like to win it all and step up our game.

Sitting so close to the boards, especially behind or beside the benches is just terrible. I'll take row 14 any day, best view in the house.

How's the view there? It must be awesome hearing the players and coaches talking but you don't get a great view of the game, do you?

Just wondering

I can't answer about behind the benches but where I was sitting kinda sucks... It's cool when the plays come in close or if your team scores in that zone but the view when the action is on the other side of the ice is crappy. I'd rather watch from our 2nd level or lower 3rd level because you get to see soo much more action.

The view itself wasn't great. But as a once of experience it was fantastic.

you can see the gap in the glass IN THIS PIC

So I could hear the coaches and players pretty good.

You could see the assistant coaches keep a count of shifts and looking to see who was coming over the boards on the caps end, and then Laviolette getting his matchups. You could see him sending guys out for a faceoff, but not getting his matchup as caps had last change and he would say to them, ok puck drops and right back, right back, and they literally would try to force the puck down on the faceoff and hightail it back to the bench.

I am normally either up in the top level or in the corner of the lower level, which has much better vantage point

My lower level seating looks like this

caps / pens

Caps / Flyers

But only get a few games a year in lower level. I had my season tickets in 413, loved those seats, but had to give them up because was paying for a wedding and legal fees for our greencards also.

Still get to about 12-14 games a year, and will most likely be a season ticket holder within a season or two again

I got to see Ottawa and Tampa play earlier this year 3 rows from the ice. Bad seats for watching the game but kinda neat to get up that close once in a while.

You really notice how small St. Louis is when he is beside Chara!!

This was probably my 5th or 6th time seeing the pogues/popes.

Here is a useless fact. Shane McGowan had 2 of his teeth knocked out in a fight outside the Grill (a nightclub) in my hometown of letterkenny (back in Ireland).
