Lower Cut Boots

Recommended Posts

Some grafs are lower cut...703s 705s and 707s maybe? Someone who sells graf would certainly know better, but my old 705s were about an eyelet lower cut that my older Bauer Vapor 8s.

yeah, i don't know technically, but my 703's feel lower cut than either my bauer 6000's or my CCM vector 7.5's did

703's

I've tried on graf 727, those felt like the ankles was completely free, even more so than 703's. I didn't skate in them though.

Would you say the ccm tack are low average or high cut??

Mid to high cut. Depends on the model too, what are you looking at? Pro Tacks?

I have been skating in '03 652 had no problem to switch to '03 1152. then i bought the F10 i found them too high-cut.Skating forward was OK but backward and cross-over was a bitch. This is the time i realise how IMPORTANT is the cut of the boot.So i sold my Flexlite and then bought some 852 tack 2004.

I was looking to buy the 8k,vector pro, tack pro 2004 or 8090. but would like to know if the cut of the boot would be the same.

Vector pro boot is not what I would call "low cut." I leave the top eyelets undone, suits my fancy. I play defence and really use a lot of leg bend skating backwards, so I need all the forward flex I can get, and that gives it to me. I guess it depends on whether you're comfortable with leaving the eyelets open. If not, look at some of the "low cut" ones. Which doesn't really include anything you're looking at right now I don't think. Personally I don't think you'd regret going for a Kor Shift 1.

I found that leaving a eyelet make you less stable on ice. That what i did with my F10 and i had my forward flex desired but couldn't be fully stable on ice.

So i assume that the Vector are the same cut as tack and rbk 8k?

Strengthen you ankles and you'll be fine.

I used to skate with an eyelet undone at the top too. It was fine during summer hockey when my body had practiced power skating a few hours a day for a week, but at the start of the fall I lost all semblance or substance of stop and start quickness. Some guys can and do pull off one or two eyelets undone with great success. Most high school kids I see suffer a lack of quickness because it seems like when they want to start and stop they have to wait for their weight to shift to the right part of their foot. It's an obvious delay between decision and action. It seems like way more high school kids skate that way here in Minnesota where I go to college than Wisconsin, where I played high school hockey. After getting used to grafs (wet, soft ones) I loved the low cut and the way my foot could move and get forward flex without have to lean over the plank a little bit, if you will. To me it seems like more a question of balance than ankle strength, cause yeah, my ankles were sore skating with the top loose but not very sore, I wasn't slower due to weak ankles, just due to lost balance.
