Leafs vs. Panthers

Recommended Posts

Every player was second fiddle to Mario, goes without saying. Same thing for Gretzky in Edmonton, even with guys like Messier, etc. on the bench. My point is Jagr has been bringing it for a long time. The Caps situation was a disaster for him. He wasn't exactly surrounded with a great supporting cast. I'm just glad to see a player of his ability return to playing at the level he has always been capable of playing at again. Also, the Jagr/Caps situation in terms of supporting cast is similar to the problem Sundin is facing this year with Leafs. Don't go crazy, I know Mats didn't bail on his team but he has had to struggle this year with his plumbers and grinders. More power to him for hanging in there. Its sad to see old thoroughbreds try to run Triple Crown races when they are no longer 3 years olds.

Yeah but this isn't a washed-up Yzerman trying to fit on a team, Sundin's still obviously very effective. Problem is for the last....well since Quinn took over, they don't build one solid line around him. Could you imagine what would happen if Jagr was put on a line with Orr and Betts? He'd demand a trade.

Edit: I finally see why Theo hates Mario so much. Theo is apparently a big fan of prima donnas (Lindros, Jagr) so he's trying to compensate for that by hating the biggest one the NHL had the last 20+ years.

Don't forget when Mario's hand was broken for a few games during that run, Jags took over. and he was very young as well.

Which d-man are you talking about Easy, that the Rangers took? Kaspar? I assume the center is Holik?

I don't know enough about Perrault to know if that is a joke or not.

Kaspar and Holik were both inches away from being Leafs before NYR jacked up the price on both. Holik was signed at 9 mill right? I believe the Leafs went as high as 8.5 and were willing to go the length, or matched the price, but not the length. Kaspar and Toronto was apperantly a done deal, then a last minute offer from the Rangers took him away.

Perrault had a 4 goal game in Toronto, which is what I was referring to. It is a joke, although he is having a good season.

Mess came back and won the cup the next season, then did the same for the Rags. My point is simply that Jagr hasn't been a successful leader in his career. He's always had the skill and talent, but his heart has been questioned in the past few years. You need a good supporting cast to win games, but you don't necessarily need them to be considered one of the games elite and a class act. You can blame his lack of success on the supporting cast, but there isn't an excuse for his poor attitude. It's always nice to see things like that turn around, and he seems happy in NYR now, it's just a shame he had to do all of that crap to be where he is now.

Perreault's a great addition to Nashville, but as good as a year he's having it's never bad when at any time your wingers can be Kariya, Sullivan, Ellen or Walker.

Early and through the middle of his career Jagr was never leadership material. He could barely speak English. He let his play speak for him during those years.

He still can't speak English though. I guarantee you the guy selling oranges by the gas station who just came into "town" today speaks better English than he does.

"I vil knot vern engvis so i don't hav to be leeder." Hmm, interesting. Any other conversations and insights you have talked to jagr about in some language the two of you both understand? Or was this thought just yours and yours alone?

God, this gets so confusing. I'm rooting for Calgary and everybody knows it. The hell with Jagr, the hell with the Leafs, Sundin, and Quinn. Go Flames Go!

Thanks for the reality check, back to work.......

I'll just go along with the history he had with the Caps for that argument. I'd wager that the first time they're down 3-0, 4-0 in a game these playoffs he pulls it in.

I missed the year the Caps made the playoffs with Jagr. I remember the talk when he said f this regular season but playoffs? JK, just think there is a difference between regular season intensity and playoff intensity. I think his mindset is in a different place with Rangers vs Caps daze. Playoffs are also different with regard to player's integrity, unless you are a European defenceman not named Lidstrom.

thanks for the history lesson. short term memory is first to go.

I remember jagr going from the wall to the net in Cup Finals 15 years ago but can't remember playoffs from 2 years ago!

They were up 2-0 on Tampa, had the series, then lost a game in OT, while 2-men short, and never recovered.

Yep, I went to game 2 that year. That was in 2003.
