1st time in goalie gear..

Recommended Posts

Today in our private dropin, I had the chance to strap on some pads and have at it on goal. I have to say first off that I have a lot more respect for goalies now. Those pads are heavy, cumbersome and standing there for a period was almost sheer hell. Honestly, its exhausting getting up and down.. and for a postion who doesn't skate much, I was suprised that I was more exhausted in one period of goal vs one period of RW. I couldn't see out of the mask, I had sweat in my eyes, I was sweating like a whore in confession and I was made the house target (see the duck shoot at you local carnival).

I hurt my junk trying to do butterflies (I cant do splits), and I found out that my 5 hole is the size of Alabama.

honestly, I dont know how you do it, but I can see why goalies dont have to pay for drop in time. I personally think I will stick to right wing... it was a good experience though.

well I must say congrats on the attempt. Yeah, it's really hard as a non-goalie to understand some of the difficulties that goalies have to deal with, but a few scrimmages in net and it totally changes your opinion.

The reason goalies normally don't pay for drop in is the fact that their leg pads alone normally cost as much as half of a mid-level skaters equipment.

It's a good experience to give playing in net a try at least once or twice in your life, just to give you another perspective of things.

I played in net once, i wasnt so good. I kept trying to hit ppl as they came around behind the net.

LOL!!!

badkitty, kudos to you for having the courage to strap on the pads! I tried it once only because the entire team did it one scrimmage. The idea was for everyone to have a go at goal with everyone else taking potshots at you (forget hitting the net on this one - "Let's play kill the goalie!").
