Painting Holders

Should I paint my Tuuk Lightspeeds Black on my Pure Fly's to make an all-black skate?

I think it would look better for sure, but is there any chance of the chemicals in the paint somehow ruining the material of the holders?

BTW, I would using the ProTecToe stuff, not actual paint so I wouldn't get it all over the skate.

Black lightspeeds would look nice. But if you're doing it then do it right. There's a way to dye plastic. I remember seeing a link with instructions. If you can find it I suggest following that. You'll need to take the holders off and take out the runners.

I don't want to spend too much money, which your way of doing it would cost quite a bit. I'm just wondering if the ProTecToe could ruin the holder I guess. And if it would look good.

EDIT - Could you find the link anyways Eric? I want to see how exactly I would need to do it. I'd figure out how much it would cost then.

If you're willing to risk a pair of holders, go for it. I've seen the purefly's with black custom tuuks and it looked awesome. If you have an old pair of skates I'd try it there first. The holders can't be that much different than the lightspeed. So I would think anyway.

I was pondering whether or not to do some crazy scheme on my t-blade holders, never got around to it. But they sell this plastic paint, think it is called Kyron Fusion or something of the sort. It's suppose to work well with plastics and not chip off as normal paint would.

I was going to suggest the same thing. The paint is designed to bond to plastic. It's up to you if you want to try it, they're your skates, but like someone else mentioned, you may be better to try on a old pair first just to see how they turn out.

You're going to have to sand the plastic to get the paint to adhere...not sure if you want to do that.

JR the Krylon Fusion stuff supposedly requires no sanding or priming. I don't know for sure though I haven't used it yet.

Yea I think I was the person who thought of using the Krylon Fusion and I said that on the 'old' board. I was thinking about that right now too. And Veltri, I'm not really asking if they would look better all black (even though that's what the actual poll suggests)... I just want to know if it would ruin the plastic or ont, and since the Krylon Fusion is made for plastics, I don't think that would hurt it.

I didn't know you suggested it and didn't steal the idea. I saw the commercial!

Theres information on dying lacrosse heads on the internet. I think you use RIT dye or something, my friend does it to his lacrosse heads.

I would highly recomend not spray painting your skates. I did it to my skates (I used the Krylon Fusion stuff) and sure, it looked sweet at first, but then it started chipping after the first use. In the long run, it majorly F'ed up my skates appearence.

I've seen PureFlies with all black t'blades and they looked sweet so I imagine that those would look great aswell. I'm not sure if it is that smart of an idea, but it would definately make a nice looking pair of skates.

The way I look at it is sure it would look really good. But this sport isn't about looks at all. As long as it performs. Personally I wouldn't do it, you could wreck something, and you might have to get new holders or something, and for what? To make you skates look just a little bit better....

The lacrosse head dye should work, the dye shouldn't chip off like spray paint would. Think of all the abuse lacrosse heads go through and I've never seen a dyed one chip.

Thanks a lot Sly! I may go to my LHS and see how much they charge to take off holders and put them back on the next day. I might have to do that.

I have painted two pairs of skates, one pair included my tblades. They turned out really good if I do say so myself. I dont have that bad of chipping at all either.
