Shoulder pads

guys I need some help. I recently broke my collar bone and am looking for the best protecting shoulder pads. Im not worried about the price at all. thanks

I have always thought that Easton takes really good care of the collar bone and surrounding area. The new S9 appears to be less so than last years, but it could just be me. Curently I have last years 500's.

edit. I have the easton s5 and they are pretty protective around the color bone area, if cost is not an issue, go for the s9, the only thing is they have a floating spine protector, I like the design of the floating chest protector better. because that floating spine protector is kind of protruding from the back, all though I'm sure it serves its function.

The best shoulder pads on the market for protection, bar none ,are top end Reebok/Jofa. The 8K,7K and 6K are some of the best on the market so I recommend one of those three. Most of the players in the NHL and IIHF use Jofa or Reebok shoulder, shin and elbow pads because they are the best. That goes for most of the other North American major hockey leagues as well. ;)

you may be right, i think that jofa/rbk is the leader with shins and elbows, jofa/rbk shoulders are also very protective , but specificly the colarbone area look to be better protected at the easton or the new vectors ;)

you may be right, i think that jofa/rbk is the leader with shins and elbows, jofa/rbk shoulders are also very protective , but specificly the colarbone area look to be better protected at the easton or the new vectors ;)

I agree on both accounts rbk/jofa does an awesome (I'd say the best ) job of protecting your shoulders, but as far as clavicle protection they're good at best, even on the higher end models. If I were you I'd listen to Bucko, and go with eastons or the ccm's, the collarbone protection on even the mid-priced models is awesome.

IMHO, the RBK/Jofa line is the best, from the 5k up offers great protection and fit. The 5k even has a little pad that sticks up on the back to help protect the base of the neck.

Mind you, he is asking about the collarbone area. On my buddies 7k's there is nothing but a little polyurethane foam in the area with even thinner foam everywhere else except the sternum. From the shoulder all the way to the side of your neck, the eastons have hard plastic with padding underneath. As well, in terms of protection in general, the eastons have hard plastic sewn in to the lightdensity foams that are present everywhere except the sternum and back protectors.

Don't get me wrong though. I think jofa is has wonderful products at truly great prices, and they will definately be my next set of elbow pads. But I do think that Jofa does not make shoulder pads that are as protective as others. Conercing comments about NHL players, we all know that they do not where the most protective pads. *cough* cooper etc.

those are good points, I checked my son's 5k's, they have a hard piece of plastic under the fabricate covering the clavical, with padding above and below that area. The clavical is one of the weeker bones in the body and takes little pressure to break, sometimes having to stiff/hard of a surface doesn't allow for the impact to be absorbed.

There were three kids with broken collarbones at our rink last year, all three wore Easton shoulders.
