Totally irrelevant info about a tournament

Recommended Posts

I have a totally irrelevant, yet humorous, story about a tournament I played/reffed in today. I have very little to complain about, because it was for a charitable cause and I played/reffed three games apiece, and will probably be able to do another four on Friday if I want.

If we had won our second game today, then our first game would have been at 9:30 AM tomorrow rather than at 7:00, so I guess I'm being wimpy because I lost out on 2.5 hours of sleep.

But here's the humerous part: He was a nice guy, but I swear I've NEVER seen a goalie as bad as ours was! We were told he's been playing for two years, but it has to be that he's played once a year during that span. I think we allowed 10-12 shots over two games, yet gave up 7 goals and lost both games in shootouts.

What's funny is we had a stacked defense, because some of the guys belonged at the higher level, so we played defense and tried to hold back. (Most of the players were police/firemen and many of them literally play once a year in this tournament.) Our best player broke his ribs last weekend, so he dressed up in his tweed jacket and "coached." A couple of guys showed up for the second game, so he was joking with them that "We can't afford to give up ANY shots."

Again, plenty of ice, for a good cause, but, wow, I've never seen a goalie that bad!

The goalie for my beer league team once gave up 7 goals on 6 shots. A dump in bounced off the boards and went 5 hole on him. He was "accidentally" left of the email list for next season.

We scored 12 goals and lost a game once. That one was a real defensive struggle.

Oh the goalie I was refering to got us into plenty of those. I'd say all of the games he played he allowed at least 5. I'd bet 16 of the 18 he allowed over 10. He was really tough. Couldn't move, couldn't get up, and was very lazy. Never made any attempt to get better. I don't even know why he played.

I can beat that. Years back, one of the teams I was on lost a game while scoring 14 goals.

We played again and I finally figured it out.

Remember the commercial a couple of years ago where a very overweight goalie squeezes himself into the net, then doesn't move to block the shots, except for an occasional leg kick? That's EXACTLY how this goalie looked. Except for the occasional leg kick..... :P

I was playing for Iron Mountain once and we played a team that was a little short and not really good, so my buddies made me play for them. The worst part was their goalie/defence. I was playing blue line and I would have to score a hattrick and get an assist before I could get on the ice and let that goalie let 5 in on 5 shots. That was a weird game. And all these guys were like "THANKS so much for helping us... sorry about our goalie he's kinda new to this hockey thing."

Maybe you guys should have pulled him for the extra skater. My old team won two games that way when our goalie couldn't make the games. Longest power play ever.

In one of our games our backup goalie let in 2 goals on 1 shot. I'm pretty sure they just forgot to click the counter up for the second goal, but man that kid is a really reall crappy goalie. Wow is the only words for him.
