analog999 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2006 Did a quick search and came up with nothing. Anyone know how many calories a hockey player will typically burn skating for an hour? Specifically I'm looking for someone who has the calculation or estimate with shift breaks built in to the hour - like 25-30 minutes of ice time for the one hour of skating. I can take a good guess on the full hour of skating, full out without stopping would be just about 1000 calories. (For someone 175lbs at 25 years old)

repus 0 Report post Posted May 18, 2006 This is very dependant on a person by person basis. I have worn my heart rate monitor which creates a decent estimate. I have ranged anywhere between 500 and 900 calories per hour. Ironically I get the best burn at Shinny hockey.I have read that you can burn up to about 1000 calories per hour.-dave
t-bone 1 Report post Posted May 21, 2006 Couple of weeks ago at the pickup, this guy had a hear rate monitor (around the chest). He said it was calibrated to his weight, resting heart rate, etc. It showed about 1100 cals burned during 1 1/4 hour skate + warm up ( 2 lines, beer league pace). mrusse01 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2006 keep in mind your body burns about 2500-3000 calories a day just staying alive.
Nick23 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2006 keep in mind your body burns about 2500-3000 calories a day just staying alive. But if you consume more than 3000 calories a day with no exercise...your still going to get fat. Sounds like one of the best caloire burners i can think of. Guy Incognito 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2006 1 hour of hockey and 10 minutes of sex (no foreplay) burns 1,134 calories. If I did this every day I'd be thin.
analog999 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2006 keep in mind your body burns about 2500-3000 calories a day just staying alive. That totally depends on your body and I don't think I burn 2500 calories a day just by being alive. I'm probably lucky to burn 2000 a day. Some people have better metabolisms than others - I think I got the short end of the stick.

mrusse01 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2006 You need to burn 3500 more calories than you take in to lose one pound. I've never understood the difficulty people have in losing weight...I mean sure it is tough to actually do I guess, but it isn't tough to understand what you HAVE to do. All these books and diets out there, they all lead back to one simple fact: burn 3500 more calories than you take in and you will lose 1 pound. That's all there is to it.
