T-Blades

Recommended Posts

Once you've found the proper angle for maximum grip, t'blades are WAY sharper and grippier than goalie skates.

Not true. You don't hae a clue what you are talking about. Goalie skates can have the same sharpness feel and grip as any other blade, tblade or other.

Sorry, Jimmy, I was basing it off the goalie skates I've used (only two pairs). They both seemed very flat compared to forwards' skates, but most likely that was the preference of their owners.

i know that. but its that wide to because of the shuffles. and to stay on 1 spot. do you use T-Blades

A goal skate that has the same hollow as a regular blade, or a tblade, will grip more, not less.

Why is that?

i see. now could u "custom paint" the holder for the t-blades w/ no probloms?

Wait until the composite holder comes out. I've seen it and I don't think you'll feel compelled to spruce it up -- pretty sharp looking. Besides that, it will be both lighter and stiffer (I believe).

I've been told they'll be available during the summer.

The reaon I don't use them anymore is because the first time I skated on a pair, it was a very easy skate and I got a hole in the holder. What it boils down to is that the CCM rep told me that was normal and to be expected, and that he could not waranty the defect. I then concluded that if that was normal for the holder, I could not trust such a holder for my games.

oh. how much will they be? any idea's.and what cut to you use on ur blades w/ ur T-Blades

One place thet I found them was on hockeyservices.com On there it has them listed for $30 each foot, while the regular ones are listed at $20. I think it would be worth the extra money for what you get.

I just called Hockey Services and they said they won't receive the new holders for about 3-4 weeks. Then I checked thepenaltybox and, although the holders are pictured, they can't be ordered yet. It looks like we'll have to wait until June for the new holders.

What! You're a part time goalie.....jeeeze, they'll let anyone play goal. What did someone forget the shooter-tutor those days.

BTW, a goal skate will feel flatter because of the longer blade, but hollows are virtually identical to player skates in terms of grip, I thought that's what we were talking about. In fact a 1/2 inch on a goal skate is grippier than 1/2 on a regular skate.

also the blade(on goalie skates) doesn't have a rocker or(in some cases) much of a rocker. Most goalies won't skate on something sharper than 3/4 because that's almost like a 1/2 in player skates... and It's hard to shuffle with skates much sharper than that.

Most butterfly guys I know are using 1/2" or so for the extra grip getting up.

I got volunteered somehow -- probably cuz I'm always late. I'll walk into the locker room and the guy who rents the ice will yell from the other locker room, "Hey, Moffat, ask Jason if he's willing to play goalie today!" :D

I like playing goalie. It's a different kind of fun and a different kind of tired. Although I'll generally stay for the next session and skate out. Man, I don't remember the last time I was that sore the next day....

haha. bein a goalie is harder. now dont yell at me and say you duno and all that. well i do i play both. in my opinion goalie is alot more mental in the middle of a game then any other pos. because at a net minder, you make 1 mistake, you can lose the game for the team. but if they made tb;ades for goalies.id so ahve them.

I don't think I know one goalie using 1/2, I use 3/4 and those are super sharp.

Why would goalies need t-blades?

A goal skate that has the same hollow as a regular blade, or a tblade, will grip more, not less.

Why is that?

Because the goal skate is wider, the hollow will have a more agressive bite angle than a thinner blade.

Yes they will be slightly lighter. We have talked about whether they are "worth it" too much on this forum. Just search for "t'blade" or "t-blade"

Some people love them some people hate them. I hate them even though they are lighter and maybe even better performing.
