Any relation to Tony or Phil?

I THINK he's Phil's son...but don't quote me on that. I do know he is the kid of one of the Esposito brothers.

couldn't be a bigger lie as i know him personally and is related to neither. good shot at it though

Calm down buddy. I don't think anyone here is lying, just unintentionally stating things that might not be true. But congrats on knowing someone. I think we're all impressed.

ok mahoney

I just heard from a friend that he thought that Angelo Esposito was Phil's son.

<_<

He is sick. But like people have said, he's not that stand out guy. He's my age so i've played against him aswell as a lot of the other expected picks for 2007. Like was said by sher wood katic, couture and gagner are guys to look out for in the upcoming season. As well as Zach tourquato. This being said I know some guys that are going to the O this upcoming year, that could easily light it up so we'll see. Back on esposito though, he is ridiculous with the puck, he absolutely carried his teams back in minor hockey i remeber playing them and losing 8-6 and he had 7 goals and the pass for a tap in on the 8th. IT was ridculous.

He has no relation to the Espos

He definitly benefited from playing with Radulov and playing in the high scoring Q but any 16 year that puts up those kind of numbers anywhere in the CHL deserves to be looked.

I hope Gillies goes top 5 he played for my minor hockey association and my friend might be a top 5 pick for the draft after that

he may be outstanding in the juniors but in the NHL he will probably be just another average player IMO

Are you basing that on having played against him or just the percentage of jr's who become NHL stars?

At 6ft 1, I'd hope he would have more pounds on him.

6'1 174lbs is not bad at all for an '89. A lot of those kids are 150-160lbs still. Of course he'll put on weight, 17 and 18 is where most guys put on weight/muscle.

I lost respect for him when he said he was going to the NCAA route and than Quebec drafts him and he plays there. They made a deal under the table, and such a thing shouldn't be allowed. Crosby went to the horrible team and he went to the memorial cup. This kid coudln't go to the horrible team and do it...he had to go to the team he thought he could win, not make win.

You make a great point.

Which shows how badly the Pens suck. A guy that CAN turn a sucky team around and get them to the Mem. cup... didn't.

Shocking. If I were Sid I would get out of that crappy situation ASAP.

Huge difference between the QMJHL and the NHL. Sid is nowhere at the stage of his career where he could completely turn around a franchise. Its almost impossible for one person to run the show in the NHL, while it is somewhat common in major junior.

Also, I don't see how Sid could leave the Pens. Its not like they'd trade him unless they got a Lindros-type deal, and I think after that particular trade went down, nobody is going to be jumping at the chance for trading their whole future for one player.

Not to pull hairs, Kosy....But I think Crosby is fairly close to being the player that can turn a team around by himself- even in the NHL.  I gave him a lot of hell and he deserved it, but it remains that he is already pretty much the franchise.

But I agree w/ your point about how hard it is in the NHL compared to some lesser leagues.

I'm not saying that he can't pull a franchise around in the future, because I think he can. However, to expect a hyped up rookie to pull a shitty franchise around is ludicrous. He is 19 (I think, maybe 20), still relatively unproven in the grand scheme of things, and there as been a lot of talk about his off ice attitude. Its common knowledge that he butted heads with many of the vets on the Pens this year. He is a controversial player for a lot of people, not for his on ice play, but for what goes on off the ice. A lot of it isn't necessarily his fault, namely him being named a captain. Still, to say that he can turn around the Pens as is I think isn't true. As of right now, he is the franchise. However, that franchise is pretty worthless, although it has probably the most potential in the league.

We can all hate Sid, but he's always faced the given challenge. Always played for Canada, went to Rimouski, played for the Pens, and strived at their worst times. He plays with a lot of emotion, sometimes it gets the worse of him, and you guys kill him for that. Now let's try to get back to Angelo Esposito. Who calls their kid "Angelo?"

I don't give Crosby shit for any of his on ice stuff. He has show a lack of discipline this year, but thats to be expected for a rookie I think. I just got sick of the hype surrounding him, thats all. And I don't think anyone can doubt that there is definitely a lot of negativity regarding him off ice. He is a hell of a player, but I think if he wants to become a great one he needs to focus on his off ice behavior as much as his on ice. I'll leave it at that.

You can't "dislike" a player because of hype. He was hyped, he didn't hype himself. His off ice behavious is questionable, than again, he's the same age as you Kosy(I think). I'm not justifying his actions by his age, but he's a young guy, and he's got the pressure to perform, and he's supposed to be great. He'll eventually change, Wayne was a dick at that age too. I'll end it like that.

I just turned 20 so we're basically the same age. All I know is that if I was in his situation I'd try my hardest to remain humble and try especially hard to not piss off the vets on my team. Then again, I haven't been in that situation so I odn't know what its like.

The kid is a genious, high 90s average despite playing in the Q and wants to become a doctor. He was going the NCAA route because of the education but Roy said he would pay his way to becoming a doctor if he doesn't make it in the show.

Yes, he changed his mind but tons of kids do, you should respect him for having his head in the right place but also trying to realize his dream when it is so close now. As far as an under the table deal goes it isn't like Spezza wasn't being slipped money his draft year when he was going to math class in a brand new SUV so get over it, stuff happens all the time in amateur ranks when the seats are being filled.

Finally, Quebec picked him like sixth, don't hate him because he had Radulov on his team either because Crosby was playing with Pouliout and Roussin his draft year.

In the NHL, more than any other sport, one man can't do everything. You need other talent around a star to win. Gaborik in Minnesota is a great example of that. The Penguins turnaround had more to do with the players finally figuring out how to play in their own end a little bit. "Eddie O" was in over his head and Therrien needed time to teach the players his system. Couple that with some young players trying to earn jobs for next season and *poof*, you have a major improvement in the team.

You mean because Pouliot and Roussin were playing with Crosby last year ;)

I have no idea what you're saying, Crosby went to a last place team and he took them right to the playoffs and then the Memorial Cup the next year. The team had some good players before he got there and he made them better, they also traded youth for players when they had a chance to contend like most every major junior team does.

When he went to the Penguins it was a seemingly good situation because of all the veterans they brought in but it fell apart and he still proved all the haters wrong. The only thing left is for him to not win the Calder, which everyone thought he would easily win unless he folded and AO played like he did.

I don't see what you are disagreeing with me on, unless it is that you think I have the years wrong. I know who was on the Rimouski team when they went to the Mem Cup, Crosby actually flipped me the bird from the box in the finals when he got a penalty for one of his temper tantrums.
