First batch of new skates?

Recommended Posts

Is it generally wiser to buy newly designed skates a few months after they are out? I ask because I'm looking to perhaps buy the one90 skates. But i recall some time ago i don't recall which skate had problems with the first batch. I kind of liken it to the first batch of xboxes or ps2's having problems.

So do most people wait a few months to let the companies work out the minor problems?

Many call it the bleeding edge. You pay top dollar for equipment that isn't proven. But hey, you look trendy and that's important to many.

Personally, I never buy the first year of anything. Not worth the headache.

Yes and some companies take their time acting on and honouring their warranty. So you have no equipment while you wait for a resolution. It's just a big hassle if you need to use the warranty on equipment so why not wait a while before purchasing something new on the market.

Well, I'm glad I jumped on the Mission S-series skates in their very first year - they have been the best skates we've ever had; and bought several pair of them. And I'm glad I didn't experience the XX "development pains" first hand. ...so, yeah, it can be a bit of a crap shoot. But I can't think of very many examples of problems with first year skates. Which makes it an interesting "rule of thumb" but one without a lot of support. Go with what fits.

But specifically, I will be shocked if NBH has problems with their one90's. Why? One simple reason is the problems with Vapor XX. People can roll with it/deal with it if it is the exception....one isolated launch problem.......another product launch with durability issues will create serious and lasting problems for NBH.

The smart folks at NBH are well aware of this Marketing 101 principal. As I understand it, the skate has been extensively tested, and there's been a lot of coverage of that here on MSH.

on a new 800.00 skate there would be a zero wait time unless it was a major problem. I remeber when the XXX came out we were told any issue fix or replace no questions just do the paper work.

As Hockeymom has said they now do much more extensive work on testing both on and off the ice they dont just slap a skate together anymore and say there you go have a nice day.
