drury/kovalev

Recommended Posts

what are your opinions on the drury/kovalev pattern? im interested in trying one, and ive used a spezza, lidstrom, and sakic all season. is the drury just a bigger version of the spezza, cuz the spezza seemed close to the drury curve. i was looking into getting the mogilny curve, but i found out its smaller and less loft than the sakic so now i'm looking at the kovalev. if any of you have had experiences with switching from these curves to the drury/kovalev, and if u really had to change ur shot around to adujust to it, they'd be appreciated

Having used all of those curves, the only thing I ever had a problem with was adjusting to the really rockered toe of the Drury. I found it harder to recieve passes. If they made that curve with the same profile as the Modano I would be all over it.

I used the Drury and still do. Best curve ever in my opinion. I thought that i would hate it and the only reason i bought it was becuase it was the only easton z carb they had left. Best choice ever cant go wrong.

Sher-wood's Spezza pattern reminds me of a Modano. I used one a couple years ago but not for long. As for switching from Sakic to Drury, I made the same switch last summer. I find I have better control on the height of my shots with the Drury: nice flat saucer passes and can easily snap high shots from close-in. I had a harder time keeping my shots down with the Sakic. The Drury isn't as forgiving a curve for just letting a slapper go because the rocker's fairly flat from the heel to about 2/3 of the way towards the toe, not as rockered as the Sakic overall. It's great for everything else I find.

I exclusively use the kovalev inno pattern. I used to use the busch balance which is like the kovalev just a tad longer. The kovy is longer than the drury which is great for faceoffs, loft passing, and getting the puck up quick on your shot. There are downfalls however: accuracy on the slap shot can be off if you don't have a lot time to shoot. I tried the mogilny and could not get a decent shot off at all. If you're used to an open face, it's hard to go back to anything else when using the puck. For ball hockey I use a modano curve.

most people wonder how I use the open face at all. But I'm very effective with it all over the ice... IMO!

The only drawbacks ive experienced with the drury curve is the rockered toe. Sometimes I miss passes when i have to reach for them on my backhand side. And it is difficult to get a puck up when you are reaching for the puck.

i switched from a lidstrom z-carbon to a kovalev inno true one. it was one of the best curve changes ive made. if you can manage with a lidstrom, your shots will excel with the dury/kovalev from my personal experances.
