Fury of One

Pronger to ANAHEIM

Recommended Posts

I want to see who the non-Roster player is and what the conditional draft pick is.

Some are saying its Smid. As far as the picks go Id imagine at least a 1st and 2nd/3rd

I'm hearing Smid or Chistov. I have no idea on the picks, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was mutliple firsts based on Pronger's performance.

did pronger ever hold a press conference to tell why he wanted out of edmonton?

there were 2 rumours and one of them was supposedly true

1. he had an affair with some reporter christie chorley

2. his wife hated edmonton and she wanted out

the current word is Lupul, Smid and a bunch of draft choices...

of course, Lowe may have a RFA signing up his sleeve and will use the draft choices as the required RFA compensation... interesting indeed!

update: Lupul, Smid, 1st, 2nd and conditional pick.

A lot of upside to this deal with Lupul's scoring ability (30-40 goal potential) and low salary ($900k)

Smid also is rated high

Yeah, from what I've heard his wife wanted out of Edmonton.

It's funny because His wife probably wanted out because of the affair.

It's also funny Lowe wanted Kaberle & Steen, or Bouw&Horton

From what I've read, Lowe never wanted Kaberle and Steen, rather it was the Toronto media pushing this one. The Bouw+Horton rumor would have been nice though...

Another trade where we are left questioning why this was the deal. A lot of rumours suggested both Edmonton and Vancouver getting more but I guess not. However, I think we need to let things play out with the unnamed, Edmonton having cap space and maybe even an abundance of quality picks. We know one thing though, Anaheim is a perenial powerhouse that could win the Cup depending on how they handle the two goalies situation correctly.

I think the done deal is better for them at this stage. They can spend their money on Spacek (or Tarnstrom) and Samsonov (if they still want him with Lupul in) and still have lots of cap to either sign or trade the picks for another top-4 defender and a replacement for Peca. From what I hear Smid is really promising and he just played his first year in the AHL. So maybe not the worst move by Lowe.

Aneheim got bent over to get him, but that was expected

True but they already have a lot of young players in their system. Because of that depth they can afford to trade a couple high picks and it won't kill their ability to compete. Lupul, Smid and a couple first rounders is a lot though.

Neidermeyer plays like 30 mins a game, now Pronger is in town with his 25-30 mins a game...who else is gonna play? I'd hate to be a 3 or 4 Dman on Anaheim.

from what i heard is that his wife hated edmonton and she has lived in St. Louis her whole life and she wanted to go back there

and pretty much the oliers defense is gone

Weird that it was chistovs name being rumored. As far as i understood he wasnt given a qualifying offer and was no longer ducks property. Also considering that they would need Defense back which they got.

Unless every single person in the hockey media was blowing major smoke up our asses, it seems like the Oilers got a pretty weak return if they want to make another run next year. If they're trying to rebuild with youth, its a pretty good deal. But the players they get in return won't immediately solve Pronger leaving at all. I really thought that the Florida Horton/Bouw trade was going to happen, which would have been so much better for the Oilers.

But they have most of his $6M left to spend on fixing the defense. Plus they now have lots of talent and picks they can use in other trades.

They're good, but not what they needed. I assume they'll try and re-sign Spacek but who's going to eat up the minutes that Pronger logged? At this point they should just get Witt and keep Spacek and hope for the best on the blueline.

I'm not as high on Smid as most people are. He is the weakest, pussiest and biggest diver I have ever seen play at an elite level. He dives and whines not stop.

That being said that was few years ago and he might have matured in Portland and I could still see him becoming a number to dman if his work ethic changes and he puts on some weight
