Arnott Guerin, gone

3rd-4th place finish in the Pacific , Turco is still a terrific regular season goalie so they could move up but I think the Pacific will be one of the strongest divisions this year, every team other then Dallas has improved

I was pretty critical of the deal they gave Modano last year, but essentially it was to put people in the seats of the AAC...lockout and Modano gone = super unhappy fans

Liked Doug Armstrong saying that they would rather put their $ like that in a 5 year deal into a 27/28 yr old UFA...since at 32/33 they should still be in one's prime..vs an aging 36/37 year old...

Stars will have a chance to take a long look at some of the younger players, have D to move for some help up front if needed..and take a run for a young UFA or 2 next year...

They're a shade over 34 mil right now. Assuming they sign Daley and Ott for no more than 1 mil each, that would leave about 4 mil left to spend. Armstrong has said he won't go past 40 mil for the roster. Ninimaa and his 2.508 have to GO.

Where I got the info for those playing NHL GM the home game.

As for who's left, Samsonov (maybe if he didn't get hurt so often), Shanahan (old but still good but not likely)...uh.....ummmm......who else.......ehhhh.....

Its kind of weird they arent going over 40 million...any reason? Ya, Ninimaa does have to go...looking back on him that was a huge mistake. Sounds like we might have to swing a trade if we want to get any talented forwards.....sigh....Dallas sucks again.

He won't go past 40 because he always wants to leave space under the cap in case they make a trade during the season. That way they're not screwed if the deal has more salary coming in than going out.

Oh yeah, I forgot to include Billy's cap hit from the buyout in my math so we may done in the FA dept. for now.

Just to recap the Pacific scenario:

LA: trades Demitra for a promising prospect , picks up Blake. Lose some O gain D

PHO: trades for Boynton, signs Jovo. Improved D.

ANA: Pronger. Nidermayer or Pronger on ice at all times. eechhhh.

SJ: Grier + Brown, they've at least made additions plus may be moving one of their goalies for a forward.

DAL: lost Arnott

lost Mitchell (meaning all we end up with from the Bacashihua-Belle deal with St. Louis is a 07 2nd rd. pick from Minny [Mitchell, 07 2nd rd pick for Skoula, Shawn Belle])

lost Kapanen

gained Modry (mistake prone?)

gained Stefan (hopefully scene change will be good)

gained Sydor (see above comments, but at least he's a fan favorite)

I don't think they are in that bad of shape, they lost the second line centre and an underwhelming scorer who spent time on the fourth line. The D is still solid and arguably improved while Turco is still a great regular season goalie. I could see them sneaking into a lower playoff seed similar to the way Colorado did this year.

However, we should wait and see how the other four goaltending situations play out before we bury Dallas. Remember, they are the only team in the division that knows for sure who their number one goalie is. If San Jose and Anaheim make good trades and Phoenix and LA make the right decision it could be a rough season for the Stars.
