University Schedule

Recommended Posts

So Im making my schedule for next year and I have made two of them and cant decide which I prefer better. One of them I dont start any day of the week until noon but the other I start 1130 every day except for one day when I start at 1030 and I also get Fridays off. Its a tough choice as I do enjoy sleep, which do you guys think would be better?

I honestly have both in one of the quarters I scheduled for :D But I personally like having Friday off....I did that a couple times, and doing that for my summer job right now-- working 4 10 hour days instead of the normal 5 days of 8.

What year are you in school?

Thursday can be a big party night...if that means anything to you?

However, all your classes in 4 days rather than 5 may create a more hectic schedule for you. That may also mean classes that meet twice a week instead of 3 times...it all depends how your school works. When I was in school I would rather meet 3 times a week for an hour instead of 2 times for an 1.5 hours. Big time ADD. Plus, if you miss a class, you don't end up missing as much material. You will also see your profs more often between assignments/exams, so you have more opportunities to get help. Just some thoughts...

No matter what time you have to wake up, it will be a bitch. Just my experience. Noon may seem like it is nice, until you are a month into the semester and you get used to going to bed at 4am... I found that regardless of when I started in the morning, I ended up getting about the same amount of sleep (or lack of). Because inevitably, you just adjust your night schedule accordingly.

I would say both, plus Monday or Thursday off. That may be why it took me nine years to graduate.

I go to the University of Western Ontario, going into 2nd year. Last year I probably went to sleep on average at 4am and since my registration for 1st year was so late I had a lot of morning classes that I just never went to or I went and fell asleep in which was pretty pointless. Pretty much every night is a big drinking night with the exception of Tuesdays which is why Id prefer starting later everyday. I think Im probably going with the Fridays off and just sleep Thursday night off and get ready for the weekend.

Forget about when you like to wake up in the morning...the schedules you're considering are very close. (8.30 in the morning would be different!) Consider how you will USE your time.

If you are more productive by keeping some structure, then it is likely the spread out 5 day week will work better for you. If you have good self-discipline and can actually use unstructured time productively then having one day "free" can be amazing. And yes, sometimes that Friday is handy for the recovery day... Or the project day .. or work.

If it turns into a 3 day weekend each and every week, it is going to be hard to sustain a concentrated 4-day work week plus homework in the long-haul.

Each of us knows how we "get in our own way"...think about how you ACTUALLY work ...rather than how you HOPE you'll work next semester...and pick the schedule that best supports you.

Fridays off. 3 day benders w/o worrying about being hungover (or drunk) in class on Fridays are the way to go.

Never listened to a professor, why start now?

Just joking hockeymom, but Im usually pretty good at getting work done at last minute, did it all last year and still ended the year with a pretty good average. Based on my experience in first year there wasnt much work besides a few essays and Im good at studying when it comes to exams. Definitely going to have to go with the Fridays off now, 3 day benders just cant be turned away.

I had all my classes on tuesday and thursday my last two semesters in school. I figured i would be in class for almost 8 hours two days a week, but have 4 day weekends. I never really went to classes anyway and made sure to schedule my easy classes as the early ones.

anyway, i would take the friday off over the later start time

LMAO - you know Trucks I hesitated to post because I was thinking exactly along those lines... then I figured, like all cheap advice... you'd do what worked for you regardless!

'course, at the time I didn't realize you were going to partyU ... and are a last minute adrenelin junkie..... so I agree the Friday off sched probably works best for you...LOL

I normally schedule classes on two days of the week, normally MW. Sure I have classes for 5 hours but I get 5 days off where I can study and work and whatnot. Being an old man(22) I don't party as much as I used to, but if that is a factor I highly recommend this kind of schedule(or atleast the most days off classes as possible).
