How fast goes your slapshot

Recommended Posts

It was MDE3, and if you're only shooting around 40MPH, then you dont put half as much force on the stick that they did. The sticks could've been defective, flexed too much the wrong way, or simply just hit too much ground/ice.

These were 16 - 20 year olds, and I had never seen that happen before either.

When I brought the gun to an MLRH team practice one time, several of those players broke sticks as well.....not as high a percentage, but more than you would see in a normal shooting practice.

I think everyone wants to get their shot speed up so badly when around a radar gun, that they start driving their weight down on the shaft to gain more flex, rather than learning how to get more rotational speed(using rear leg drive to accelerate the hip turn) to increase the blade speed. That will generate the additional flex from greater horizontal instead of vertical blade force. When the motion gets too vertical all that extra force is not being transmitted to the puck but being absorbed by the shaft and the arms of the shooter.

The other times I have seen multiple failures is in one timer drills, but usually it's the blades not the shafts.

are they only 14 year olds and weigh 200 pounds? im 5'10 150lbs or so and 16 years old....

No! They are my age 18, 19, like he said he was in his first post, I think it was his brother who came on and said it was true and that he (his brother) was 14 years old. I'm not sure because it's hard to get the message, not being mean, but because of his translations. I haven't grown an inch in about 5 years and I was a similar size to you when I was your age, 14.

I think everyone's noses have probably grown about 2 feet after this post. Half the people in this post shoot as hard as an NHL star...and at only 12-16 yrs old too! Players really are getting bigger and stronger...hahaha.

From what I've seen with kids, especially those who are 14-16, those who have a powerful slapshot always lack in other aspects of their games. Its because they either only practice their shot, or they rely too much on it. Perfect example- kid on my team last year had a real good shot, probably the best one of the teams that we played against. Could be 75 MPH, I don't know. Everytime down the ice, he'd wind up for a slapshot, even if he could take a wrist or heaven forbid pass the puck. Having a great shot really hurt his game.

Good point Kozy! I can't slap at all, yet I see the game and play smart. The rest of my team just try to hit the glass with their slapshot. I just shake my head in disapointment!

my slap shot is around 65 mph, but i still manage to outscore every kid with a bomb that ive played with. Having a great slap shot impresses no one if you dont have the other tools.

Im 17 and i shoot anywhere from low 70s to low 80s. My speeds vary so much because Im not very consistient with it because I rarely use it. I just try to shoot it hard, low and on goal. Im 6 foot 4 and 190 pounds.
