Man, he has a little playoff streak and that turns him into a cocky, selfish player. I hope it comes back to bite him.

Very stupid move by Ilya. First of all, Giguere led his team to a game 7 in the Stanley Cup final and Ilya hasn't. So, considering that only fact, he should shut up.

I don't think a GM like Burke is gonna like that. Maybe he was considered the no.1 goalie, but that could very well change when training camp arrives. After those comments, I don't think he's gonna stay in Anaheim for very long.

Not smart, could be a move that gets himself traded.

I don't think he cares who gets moved as long as he gets to start somewhere.

Remember the Giggy meltdown in the regular season with Coach Carlyle? Wonder if that has anything to do with what may happen in the future.

I see Burke's Harvard Law degree is kicking in...he's trying to say there was a loss in the translation, that Ilya may not have responded in the proper context.

Wasn't the newspaper he was talking to the Sovietsky Sport Russian Paper, and isn't Ilya a Russian-speaker? How would he lose something in translation talking in his own language? Did I read the article wrong or something???

Interesting situation though. Giggy had a great playoffs a few years back, and played pretty good net all season long. Hit a snag in the playoffs and Bryz comes in. Now he he thinks he's God's gift to Duck goaltending?

Honestly, I think I'd stay with Giggy. He's proven he can play consistently at a high level. You don't need that kind dissention in the locker room. Unless of course, a good deal comes the Ducks' way for Giggy, then all bets are off. This is a business afterall.

I think Burke was refering to what the team had told Ilya.

"My first reaction is that this could be a language-barrier issue," Burke told the Orange Country Register through a team spokesman.

"No one from our organization has told either goalie they will be our No. 1 goalie, nor has anyone told them they will be traded. What I did tell each player was that since they have both established themselves as No. 1 goalies in the league, we would listen to (trade) offers on either of them, but I haven't offered either to any team, period."

I guess Ilya thought that the statement meant that he and not Giguere was the starter.

Ahh so the lost in translation thing was what the team told Bryz, not what Bryz told the newspaper. Makes sense.

Lemme see..."Ilya you're #1 next season." Or, "Ilya, Giggy will be #1 next season." Or, "You and Giggy will be fighting for #1 next season."

Yup, I can see the mistake in translation.

One again it is the medias fault for taking his words out of context. How exactly that works I don't know when he was directly quoted bashing Giguere but I guess thats how she goes. Im starting to think Bryz told this to a Russian newspaper never expecting the word to spread around North America and cause such a stir.

That sound you hear is Bryzy back peddling.
