Jason Harris 31 Report post Posted July 16, 2006 Okay, here's a twist on the Favorite Songs threads.Since they can jump around genres quite a bit, we'll limit the song choices to a particular artist, using Rolling Stone magazine's Top 100 Artists of the Past 50 Years. Every Saturday night, when I get back from the pickup I play, I'll create a new thread with the next band on the list. After that, we'll create threads for the most egregious omissions -- HOW THE HELL IS PINK FLOYD NOT AMONG THE TOP 100??? Anyway, this should keep us entertained for the next two years..... :P Also, to help you think ahead, here are the Top 10 artists:1. The Beatles2.Bob Dylan3.Elvis Presley4. The Rolling Stones5.Chuck Berry6. Jimi Hendrix7. James Brown8. Little Richard9. Aretha Franklin10. Ray CharlesYou can post reasons for your favorite three songs or just list them. I'll list mine in the next post.

When their slots come up, we'll list the Zeppelin and Skynyrd songs.I want to know how the hell the beatles and rolling stones made the top ten but led zeppelin didnt and hendrix is only six? Who are the dumbass's that they have making up this list.Because as big as Led Zeppelin was in the 70's, their cultural impact was NOTHING compared to the Beatles. Led Zeppelin was a band, whereas the Beatles were a social phenomenon.I'd like to keep each threead limited to that band, so do you guys want to start another thread to discuss the Top 100? By the way, Mack, Eleanor Rigby I know, the other two I don't. Those are Beatles' songs?
Thockey17 1 Report post Posted July 16, 2006 No, no, no....this thread is only for Beatles songs. When their slots come up, we'll list the Zeppelin and Skynyrd songs. I only read the last line in your first post. Anyways, i cant even listen to more than 1 minute of any beatles song. I'll pleasure my ears with other music thank you very much. top_shelf_24 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2006 Hey JudeWhen I'm 64Lady MadonnaMy avatar is rather suiting... Where are the Eagles???I read somewhere that they sold close to or more albums than the Beatles. Might not be true, but I'm sure the Rolling stone bases a lot of the ranking on Album sales. That could be another reason why the Floyd isn't on.I don't know.. just an idea.
trucks 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2006 While My Guitar Gently WeepsHappiness Is A Warm GunStrawberry Fields Forever (Would have been I'm Only Sleeping but already said so I changed it up to get as many song opinions as possible)And as a fourth it would have been Sgt Peppers complete album, just couldnt pick one song, the album flows together too well and feels like one long song.Very tough to only pick 3, they have so many songs that I love and these are 3 that Ive heard most recently which I also love. Cant wait for some of my other favourite bands to come up.

Jason Harris 31 Report post Posted July 17, 2006 Oh, only Beatles songs? Yeah, going with Eleanor Rigby, Paperback Writer and Eight Days a Week. That's interesting, given I don't think any are later than 1965. A lot of people don't give their older credence as much credit, because of Sgt. Peppers but, from what I've read, even the early stuff was groundbreaking.

The later stuff was groundbreaking because of the drugs I think and just the style of music was a lot more revelutionary unlike the poopy stuff which was already around in Britain at the time. It was also groundbreaking however because it was much better then the stuff already out and really brough the masses in who stuck and grew with them throughout their career as a band. I prefer the older stuff such which is a lot more stoneresque. And Eleanor Rigby was relased on Revolver in 66 while Paperback Writer was released on Hey Jude in 70. And Eleanor Rigby was relased on Revolver in 66 while Paperback Writer was released on Hey Jude in 70.Paperback Writer was released as a single earlier. As a matter of fact, on the Anthology DVD, they said that one of the Beatles songs could be considered the first music video, and I think it was Paperback Writer.I understand what you mean about the different styles of music in pre and post Sgt Peppers (maybe Revolver/Rubber Soul), but the masses were already there. That's what the movie A Hard Days Night was all about -- showing the craziness of their lives. This was also on the DVD, but one of the reasons they stopped touring was the crowds were so loud that the band couldn't hear themselves; Lennon had said they could play the wrong notes yet the crowd wouldn't notice. trucks 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2006 Paperback Writer was recorded in 66 and released in that year as a single, first year it came out on album was 70. It was the start of their change to new music as it was their first single which was not a love song. And sorry for responding to all these with the exact facts but Im just dead bored at work and have been Wikipediaing all these songs and reading their historys, anything interesting to get through the day, Ive moved on to Wikipedia after clearing YouTube out of all that I deem interesting.
