The thing is that Free is a training shoe...it is not meant to be worn for every day use. Iceman is right...the lower the number, the more forgiving the shoe is. That is why the shoe comes with varying insoles.

Do you guys think these would be okay for playing hockey outside. I've seen a few of my friends rip their shoes while running and then trying to stop. Also what are the differences between the 7.0 and 5.0. Would the 5.0 be okay for playing hockey outside as well

I have actually also had this problem with the Free 5.0 RUNNERS (NOT trainers). The heel fabric tore out where it's glued onto the plastic strip.

I had the exact same issue with mine after only three motnhs of wear. I hope they have gone to a more durable material on the heel area because they were actually very comfortable shoes to wear.
