need help with new skates

Recommended Posts

ok, right now i wear a size 7.0 regular in graf 503's. i got them stupidly because i wanted to get some new skates. they seem a lil big on me and its getting annoying.

i need help deciding what skate to get. i can spend about $200 on new skates, maybe a little more. we have no lhs so thats why i am coming to you all for advice.

i have a wide foot also, thats why i got a little bigger grafs, so they were wider, but too big when it comes to length.

i can currently fit in a nike roller daddy inline skate size 5.5EE comfterbly.

and i also can fit in a ccm 5.5EE comfterbly.

i am looking for a higher end skate, but i really dont know what would fit close to the nike v-12's or the vector zg100's, both in 5.5 ee.

any advice is welcome. i plan on ordering online by the way.

also, i am going to a play it again sports in montana in like 3 weeks where i plan on trying on a couple pairs of skates, any advice on what i should try on to get a proper size?

Since you are going somewhere why don't you just try on all the skates. As well you mentioned two high-end skates that cost equal to/more than double the price you mentioned.

and i was just wondering how the one90's and flexlite 12's fit. the flexlite 12's are only like 250 in my size.

im just trying to get advice on what skates fit like the v-12's.

What part of your foot is wide? If the front of your front/area around your toes is the really wide, then I would suggest the Nikes. They have a huge toe box. you can pick up a pair of Flexlites 10s at a good price.

yeah, my foot/toe area is wide.

do the vector 8.0 and vector pro's have wide toe box's?

i searched the internet and i am considering

1-flexlite 10's -$170

2-vector 8.0's-$180

3-vector pro's-$190

4- rbk 5k pumps-$160

I have Vector 7.5s and I found the Flexlites to have a wider toe box. The Synergy 1300s also had a wide toe box. Any of the skates you listed would be good choices. Go with the one that is the most comfortable.

-i found out the fl;exlites in 5.5ee are 189.99 at hockey monkey, is that good?

-also, do they fit the same as the v-12's and the rollerdaddys?

is 189.99 a good deal?

-what is better about this skate then the flexlite 10's?

Let me get this correct. You have no LHS so you plan on buying online. Great, then buy online. Take the risk and suck it up. Don't rip of a hard working store. Are you really serious about going to a PIAS in Montana are wasting their time and try on skates there with full intent to buy online?? Come on man, have you no shame? Don't you think the PIAS has to hire and pay employees to help you fit the skates. Don't they have to air cond the store so you are comfortable while scamming them? Don't they have to pay for lights and benches for you to sit on to try the skates? And liability insurance, etc, etc. It cost the store owner money, why are you planning to rip him off?

The proper thing to do is buy the skates at the PIAS or at least offer the owner some money for the fitting service. LHS's are NOT showrooms for internet sites. I don't understand how you folks can just rip off LHS's with no remorse.

for glove and skate i will always buy in any of the 10 hockey store i have within 25 min of driving. But for the rest, I go on ebay.

Sometimes the price isn't so bad in the store, but the freaking 15% of tax make it bigger. Usually i save between 40 to 60% on ebay. Yes i should support my hockey store(but still pretty hard when you have like 10 store in your area...). I'm still a 16yr old kid who isn't rich so i go for the cheaper. and 50% off on the same item, one on the internet or in store, i will go with the half price deal.

dude calm down!

do u work there or sumthing?

if they have skates i like and in my size and a decent price, i will buy them. i am not going to buy a used pair of skates for 150 when i can get new flexlite 12's for 189. And plus, i dont think they will mind that much if i try on skates and buy other stuff. whose to say im not going to buy anything?

i mean if i go into a pro-shop and try on gloves and dont buy them, holy cow i guess im a bad guy. wrong. its competitive pricing. im not going to buy skates i dont want just so timmy can feel good.

and i wasnt planning on getting help trying on the skates.half the time i go there the ppl dont know anything about hockey. i know how to put skates on and see if they fit me.

so yes i will go into the store sit on there luxurious bench, under there bright lights and try on skates.

Look, you clearly said you intend to buy online and that you were going to visit that store to try on skates. That was pretty clear, no misunderstanding. Had you said, "I'm going to visit a PIAS to buy a pair of skates, can anyone help me with sizing before I get there", then that would be a different story. But you didn't.

Competitive pricing is one thing, but using LHSs as showrooms for internet sites so you can save money is not appropriate. What part of that don't you understand?

The moral part perhaps?

Yeah, when I went to a not-so-local shop, I tried on a bunch of gloves, checked out the sticks, didn't buy them, but also bought a pair of Kors. At least show some dignity about how you present yourself.

Jimmy -

They will never understand.

LCHockey -

Skates take expertise to properly fit. Regardless of their expertise, it is not self-service - just the mere fact that someone is pulling skates for you and lacing them up for you denotes a service. (and yes, I tip at a buffet. Someone is getting me drinks and putting away my plate.) If you do not agree with the prices, walk away. Simple as that.

I agree. They dont understand how much time is tied up with a "stealth" customer who wants to try on every pair so they can fit for a online purchase. When I get just one person in the store who wants to do it, it means I have to have an extra person to run the register while we are pulling boxes and lacing skates and answering questions. This costs me money. These people just don't have the intelect to understand why a LHS's equipment cost more than an online store. They want the best of both worlds, the services of a LHS, the ability to touch and feel and size, yet the low prices of a web store. The "well I'm just trying on gloves at the LHS and nobody has to help me do it" attitude is really simplistic. They don't undersatnd what it costs the LHS just to put gloves on display. Unlike the web stores who have $5.50 per sf warehouse space and all their equipment is in boxes in a dark cold/hot warehouse with one minimum wage employee filling orders, a LHS bills are way higher. Higher rent, higher utilities, more expenses, more staff, more insurance, man the list goes on. Yes, they will never understand. Until they are laid off from their jobs and their boss tells them, sorry we just can't compete with the online stores.

Well, not all online stores are like that. Both HG and HM have big stores. My company has a big internet presence, and we pull product from the stores. The store that fits your "warehouse" description would be ePuck. I knew of reps who never stopped by because it's essentially a whse with a very small storefront.

Yea, I know all stores aren't like that but MANY are and many started that way.

i said i was going to buy something!

i still am going to try on skates.

i need new shins and elbows, and maybe a few other things, so its not like im goin in, trying on 50 pairs of skates and then walking out.

i may try on 5 pairs max, and they are just sitting there on a rack. its not llike timmy has to walk in the back, search through boxes and then give the skates to me. its not as bad as u all think!

While I do agree with Jimmy, as a poor college student I have to keep my finances in order. I always tip at my LHS(for sharpenings and whatnot) and try to buy as much stuff as I can there as opposed to at online retailers but if the price is a lot more at the LHS I have to seriously consider not buying it there.

For example, $150 for one90 gloves is reasonable even though I know I can find them for $130 online... but if I can find them on ebay, used twice for $100 I seriously have to consider making that purchase through ebay. That $50 may not be a lot to some of you, but to me it is.
