Black Stone Sharpeners

Recommended Posts

I saw that Blademaster at Onegoal. It was a beautiful machine which only us crazy skate sharpeners would ever use the word beautiful to describe a sharpener! It was a match of technology, industrial design, and simple common sense that made it look so good. Just the idea to give two guys at the machine a little more elbow room was like Duh!!, that wasn't so difficult. The granite table top was just the cherry on top. So, after about 2200 sharpenings at $6, its $$$ time! Don't forget to add the freight!

The only thing I would say on this machine would be if they had a bigger filter unit it would be much better.

With the new Blackstone machine and the increased filter size it takes longer to get dirty and easier to clean along with pulling more air all the while.

My personal machine in the room is a Blademaster portable with a Max Edge 600 CFM air unit. Also using a Blackstone Trilite holder with a Max Edge Pro Level.

I havent cleaned it out since 2004 when using it with the Toronto Roadrunners (we bought it from them) and it still pulls like a champ. I do plan on cleaning it before this season though.

But I have to agree that new blademaster is one awesome looking machine. The feature I like best is the variable speed on the wheel allowing a smother pass and the wheel being able to be used longer because you can slow it down when its small. That should be the key for a smaller shop you would use less wheels and get over 300 sharps out of each wheel instead of 250 to 300.

Ashes to ashes and dust to dust, if the Lord don't get you, it will be the dust!

The carbon isnt near as bad as the Silca off the wheel when ou dress it that is a 100% killer for sure. Although the carbon tastes and smells ba it pales in comparison the wheel airbourne dust. With out good ventalation say by by to your lungs filled with glass. Thats one thing i am very happy with in almost all the store we have done a great job at getting air to the machines and keeping the shops clean. They used to as most not worry about it and let the dust go where it wanted. That was such a mess to clean up and some stores were worse than others........anyway...I think I rambled......

yup been on here since the begining..........LOL JR and Chadd and I met way back when it was the Core days at the last Montreal Trade show!

Wasn't it the Toronto show? I drove up and picked up JR at the airport in TO and we stayed at a flop house across from a place that had a hobbit tending bar.

As for the sharpeners; I like the idea behind the new blademaster but the blackstone blows away blademaster for sharpening skates. I haven't used the portable from either company, only the big mambo-jambos.

I've used both and just found that the black made it easier to produce a "perfect" edge. I think you also did a little work on JRs skates in your shop that day.
