Is there anybody in the NY area who can mount Sprungs? I have a request from a customer for help.

Sports Plus in Ridgewood, Queens should be able to do it. They've been converting skates for years. Although I don't know what the swap would cost, replacing rivets runs $1 per rivet. They may charge a bit more for aligning the frame/drilling holes. They have other locations in NY and Connecticut as well.

I bought some Sprungs, although I do not have an ice hockey background, I would love to be able to skate like I was on the ice. Currently I use Tour Blue Max, with the Hummer chasis and I love those skates, but figured I would try something new. I am having the Sprungs mounted on a Tour 902 boot that was just sitting in my garage. I will post pics when I get them back from being mounted.

I also wanted to say that the shipping was insanely fast. I purchased the frame Wednesday afternoon and received the frames Friday afternoon. I was very surprised and happy. Very good and fast service!! I can't wait to try these things out.

Latest update.

I have a feeling my future on sprungs may be limited!

Snapped another sprung arm last game so thats 2 in 2 games.

I love skating on sprungs but I'm not sure if i can handle having to worry about them breaking mid game. especially when my team has only got 5 or 6 players!

Its a real dilemma! i dont have the cash to do anything right now! but hopefully i wont break anymore!

Anyone else broken any yet? Im quite a fast hard skater so that never helps!

Is that the old model? Because I dont think there have been any failures on the new model other than a pivot bolt.

We've actually had two pivot pins break out of all the new white model. One was either from a super hard hit directly on the nut (never had it happen like that on new or old), or more likely, a hit hard enough to distort the whole frame, which would put pressure on the sides of the nut from the inside and snap the threads and nut off.

Popping the nut off actually absorbs and relieves some of the shock. Unlike aluminum, the rockers and frame snap back to their original shape. The material is like a stiff leaf spring, with molecular memory.

The other one, if I understood right, was a victim of some zealous over tightening. It also broke the threads off in the nut.

When we assemble them, we usually back the nut off at least one flat from locked down. This gives the frame a little room to flex. With the wheels in, there's about the same amount of end-to-end diagonal flex as an ice blade and holder.

I get a lot of letters asking what extra parts to order. I'd order an extra wheel axle and nut because they're aluminum and if you aren't careful with them they'll ware out. And the nut can get lost while your changing a wheel. Always keep a finger over it when you're changing so it doesn't take off on its own. You can drop a little super glue in the nut inset with the nut in place, to freeze it in. It's still easy to pop it out by screwing the axle into the outside of it and levering it loose.

One more thing about changing wheels. It's a good idea to screw each axle into the outside of its nut so they are a pair and the nut won't get lost. Leaving the nuts screwed on the axle, like this, is also a great way to put the nuts into their insets. Then put your finger over it while you get the axle in.

I'd also order an extra pivot pin and nut. Why not?

Until the parts are in your LHS, I'd consider buying a rocker arm. If you are the first one to break a rocker arm, you'll be prepared. And I'll send you a replacement as soon as you email me.

I saw two conventional wheel axles come out during the NARCh qualifiers yesterday, The axles might or might not have been available in the store. Extra parts are part of the game.

D-Nam88,

Sorry about that. I forgot to log off again and haven't had a chance to be here much over the weekend.

Had a game tonight with the sprungs. There were a few guys at the rink that kept asking about the frames, hopefully they get in touch with you Keith.

Anyway, transitions were good tonight, not sure why but there was a little 'slip' in the front wheels. Not sure why, but it didnt really give me an explosive start. Other than that, the stopping and turning were pretty good.

Keith, have you got some replacement rockers for the white sprungs? Am afraid of breaking one during a game, and dont have any replacements.

We have plenty of replacement parts that we hope never to need. You can order an extra for security if you want. Posted this a little earlier.

And here's my project skates. The Formulas were too soft in the sole, so I put on two layers of glass cloth for some rigidity. This works great for anybody who has a sketchy sole. I also resined up the side panels for some added stiffness. Still light, still OK or not depending on your foot. Not Stiff.

Can I ship my XXX's to you guys and have them mounted and shipped back, and if so what sort of fee do you charge for that?

Thanks (sorry, may have already been answered but this thread is like 66 pages long so hopefully someone can help me out)

Hey Keith,

I live in SoCal and want to know if there is any store that will sell me the frames directly? I know I've already stated on this board that I was going to buy the frames, but I have a bad habit of spending my money on useless crap. If theres not a store. could I stop by some other place like a warehouse or something along the lines of that?

I got my first chance to try out my Sprung frames last night and I think I am really going to like this setup. I have always played more roller hockey than ice hockey because ice time in central Indiana is hard to come by therefore I have always felt much stronger and more stable on inlines. Even after playing a few years of pickup ice hockey I just never felt real confident with my skating and much of the time I would set and let other guys play my shifts. My hope is after I adjust to the Sprungs I will feel more comfortable on ice skates so that I can enjoy both sports.

Bombit, I believe they are. But they are easily dyed. Rit dye in boiling water did the trick nice on mine

Meh, I almost prefer the white.
