Kovalchuk?

Recommended Posts

Why is Kovalchuk still with the thrashers, I'm not sure on his contract situation but they've been trying to build a team and have got nothing accomplished, especially with heatley gone and hossa's mediocre performance , in fact if I was hossa I'd want out of atlanta also, think they'll move around this season?

You know what their goaltending situation was like for most of last season? Heatley had 11 more goals and points than Hossa in two extra games, what is so mediorcre about that? Remember it was Heatley for Hossa and De Vries, as well.

They have two great defensive prospects, a proven offence and one of the best young goalies in the world. Look for them to be very competitive in the Southeast for years to come.

Yeah...Like FL, it's only a matter of time (well actually, FL lost their franchise goaltender and got a franchise dirtbag, so who knows...yet they have some great youth).

The Islanders are a team where people have a legit point of wanting out of...Atlanta's future looks bright though. Lehtonen is nothing to joke about.

Luongo = 0 career playoff wins. Stop hating Bertuzzi.

Atlanta is on their way for sure. I would almost say playoffs fore sure if the goalies stay healthy.

Atlanta is a really good young team. Keep in mind they finished 9th in the East last year and almost made the playoffs. With Lehtonen maturing, as well as prospects like Coburn playing, they'll only get better. Losing Savard did hurt, though.

A "franchise goalie" should be able to lead a team to the playoffs.

A "franchise" goalie with complete crap around him shouldn't be able to do anything but keep his team in games and competative. Thats what he has done, and then some.

According to this theory Tim Thomas is a franchise goalie.

i didnt know hossa hit 92 when i heard about him they said he was underachieving in atlanta but 92 points is FAR from underachieving, but i'm just saying for kovalchuk to sit with a losing team that long I didnt see it happening

Losing teams typically don't have winning records. Atlanta= 41-33-8.

Canadian- I've said it before and I'll say it again, you're simply retarded. I know that you're trying to argue with me about this but you're wrong and everyone knows it. Thomas is not a franchise goalie and you know it. You're really bad at trying to prove points, and you certainly do not deserve to use that as an avatar. Change it, son.

I'm saying that Luongo is the most overatted player in the league. And I'm sick of people trashing Bertuzzi. I'd be willing to bet that Florida is better than Vancouver this year.

Replacing one of, if not the best goalie in the world with a guy who peaked three seasons ago (while playing with one of the best players in the world, period) is not an even trade in terms of the team. Bertuzzi will probably get 30 goals and 60 points this year. Luongo will have 30 wins this year. Which is more important to the team? I like Bertuzzi, too. You just can't compare him and Luongo (who isn't overrated at all), even when Bert was in his prime.

First of all Martin Brodeur is the best goalie in the world. Followed by Miika Kiprusoff. Secondly, Dan Cloutier had three straight 30-win season in Vancouver, people in VAN will be expecting a 40-win season from Luongo, which I know he won't do. I'd probably take Luongo over Bertuzzi straight up but I still think that Roberto is very overatted.

Anyone who makes 55 save shutouts regularly playing for Florida is not overrated, sorry. Care to enlighten us with any other genius analysis?

When he underachieves in Vancouver what will be the excuse then?

actually i only expect 35 as a vancouver fan ;)

as for playoffs, i think he's able to handle the load when called upon. the guy stops 40-50 shots regularly, though not great implications for playoff performance, it does show he's pretty good under lots of pressure, he's been pretty good on the international fron too

Not to jump into the goalie discussion here, BUT

Kovalchuk does not care about winning, losing, the Atlanta Thrashers. Kovalchuk cares about money, and scoring more goals than anyone.

Dont believe me?

Holds out at the begining of the season for more money. Gets it, and puts up 3rd most goals in the league (right?). After Heatley scores 4 goals in one game, Kovalchuk scores 4 a week later. When asked, Kovalchuk responds "I saw Dany Heatley got 4 goals...". Kovalchuck only cares about getting his cash and scoring HIS goals to be #1 goal scorer. Thats why, he is rated as a perrinial rocket richard winner, not a franchise winger.

This year Broduer certainly wasn't the best in the world

He's been protected for years. He's an elite goaltender, but I'd take Luongo. It still frustrates me that Canada starts Brodeur over Luongo.

Brodeur is still a top notch goalie Luongo may have caught up but Brodeur still has the respect in the country and it wouldn't be right to just sit him on the bench unless he proved he could no longer play at that level but he has showed he still can

Luongo is big, athletic, has great reflexes and has good positioning - he's a great goalie. Broduer has most of the above (he's not as big as Luongo), plus he's an amazing puck handler and is a proven winner which is why Canada starts him in net. Is Luongo better in some respects? Yes, but until Broduer's play really starts to go downhill or Luongo wins a Cup or two I don't see anyone other than Broduer starting for team Canada unless he's injured. One of the great goalies I'm looking forward to seeing in a team Canada jersey is Cam Ward - the kid is unbelievable and I say that as a Canadiens fan who saw Ward (along with the Koivu eye gouging) take that Habs out of the playoffs and help his team win a cup.

As far as the Kovalchuck situation goes I think he's happy being the number one guy that the coach always goes to in Atlanta. Plus, Atlanta does have a talented young team that has the potential to do some damage in the coming years. He's also well paid so I see no reason why he'd want out.

Brodeur is overrated. He's been protected for years. He can come up big, but he isn't the unbeatable force he is made out to be. When both are on, give me Luongo. When both are "off", I'd still take Luongo. Under pressure Luongo is a relative unknown, but in the few chances he's gotten, he hasn't faltered. Brodeur is very good, but I think Luongo has played better in recent international tournaments.
