Well I have an iriver that I have had for like a year or so. I am just starting wanting the use it now so I plgged it in and nothing happens. The iRiver program on my computer says it's disconnected but it is connected. Any ideas on what to do?

Happeans all the time with windows. The driver could have become corrupt or gotten deleted. Or soemtimes, it just happeans for no reason. Try rebooting, turning the computer and the player on and off a few times. Should work. Go into your device manager and make sure its there when you plug it in. Also make sure its not just the usb port ur plugging it into, it might be dead.

A quick fix is to get os x and an iPod.

Vapor- I also have an iPod, but the iRiver is just easier to carry when riding my bike around my lake, or going anywhere around the lake I live on. THe iRiver thing works on my laptop but not on my computer, wierd to me..

Try plugging it into a different USB port. Failing that, go into the device manager and delete anything that's related to it (with it unplugged of course), and then plug it back in after a reboot to reinstall the drivers.

And Vapor may be on to something...

The one I'm thinking of wasn't from Apple but it had some drawbacks. It was wireless and you could d/l a song from its service (which you subscribe to) anywhere and get as many as you wanted. Crap part was that once you cancel their service it deletes any song you d/led from them.

Re-encode the songs with Winamp and burn them to a disc. After you delete everything, including registry entries, put the songs back on your hdd, should all work. Winamp will remove the encripted encoding and encode them as regular MP3's or whichever format you prefer.

Winamp has a nice little plugin floating around that decrypts any protected files and allows them to be spread as if burned from a CD.

My statement about Reg entries is based on the fact that programs leave traces of themselves that when deleted and reinstalled, they know. Rhino3d is very good for this.
