Mika Noronen to AK Bars

Recommended Posts

Saw it on Score and TSN that he'd rather play 45-50 games in Russia than 10-15 behind Luongo. I don't blame him, behind Luongo I don't think anyone would get much time unless he starts sucking harsh in the west.

wow, i was kinda happy about Noronen as now we'd have a capable backup...but like you, I don't blame him either, he's never got much playtime anywhere. Its funny how the Canucks keep having goaltender issues(backups anyway), even though they went out and got Luongo.

Can he really do that? I mean, can you just say Im going to go play in Russia even though Im under contract? Does his salary still count against the cap?

his contract expired at the end of 05-06 so I guess he can.. Kirill Koltsov did the same thing while under contract from Moose and just took off mid season to play in Russia

Who will they use for a back up? Wade Flaherty? I was really looking forward to having Noronen for a backup..although, his choice does make sense, because he would of got what? 30 games at the most?

the rats are starting to jump ship... :o ;) :D

I'm actually concerned...wade flahrety (sp?) is like really old, and I'm not sure whether that touted goalie character (I THINK his name was Scheider or something) is good to go...

Julien Ellis signed a 2-way deal (i think it was a 2way) to play for the Moose this year, unless they sign Ouellete for the Moose and bring Ellis up

Flarahty has been one of the best goalies in AHL the last few years. In the 10 games he'll play this year he can get the job done

I wouldn't be surprised if Flaherty or Schnieder were to become the backup.. Flaherty is great as the Moose #1 and Schnieder is a solid goaltender for Boston. I think Schnieder was the US goaltender for the world juniors in 06..

Schnieder isn't ready for the NHL and even if he was the Canucks wouldn't want him to play 10-12 games as a backup when he could be playing regularly in the AHL

wasn't there something wrong with Flaherty's contract? like he has to clear waivers first when being called up? I remember thats why he couldn't play at all last year and Oullet was brought in instead

Because Flaherty is a veteran making over a certain amount in the A (I want to say $75K, but I can't recall for sure) he has to clear waivers to be called up. That doesn't mean he can't just make the Canucks out of training camp. It only applies if he starts the season in the A and is called up.

And I seem to recall that that particular rule might be changed this year.
