Jofa Helmets?

Recommended Posts

Do they have good protection? And are the comparable to any other helmets?

i dont think they are compareable to any other brands or types of helmets.

in 2003-2004 whenever the 1st version of these came out, lots of kids used them. i think 60$ is good, but i am definately a bauer helmet person.

everyone i know that had one of these helmets loved it.

i wish jofa came out with a new helmet with the quick sizing thing on the sides like the bauer 5000/8000's

I got one, and love it too.

I'd take whatever fits your head better...I know the Bauer won't fit my head too well since I got a big head. They do have similar padding in them though. But the Rbk does have more of an adjustable fit to it if your talking about the 8k.

I really never used anything but Jofa, so I can't say if the protection is better or worse than others, but it's been okay for me.

I used to have one and had problems with it. I play Beer league at best over here with minimal contact. On 2 occassions, I fell backward and smashed the back of my head on the ice. I experienced a ringing sensation for the next hour or 2 after impact. I switched to a Bauer 5000 and again smacked the back of my head on the ice but without the ringing sensation experienced with the Jofa 690. I went Bauer all the way since then and haven't looked back. Good luck to you whichever helmet you decide on.

Well in response to Roach...I've lost track of how many times I've gone into the boards awkwardly or smashed my head into the ice this adult league session. I've had no troubles at all, and am really happy that I did spend the money to upgrade from my Bauer 3000. The only instance I had an issue was when I ran into a guy when I was looking the other way...had my head bounce off the ice like a basketball, according to the ref. I felt fine, cept for afterwards I felt a little funny, but I think it was mostly my neck that hurt though.

If I remember, Chadd has one and loves it.

Mine is the older style foam, like an Itech HC100. The one pictured has foam like the RBK. EIther way, very comfortable for a wider/rounder head shape, excellent ventilation and fairly light.

I find it odd that some people with big heads have problems with the Bauer helmets. I have a fat head, and the only helmets that fit properly are the Bauers. I currently own a Bauer 4000 and a Cooper (Bauer) 3000 size large helmets, and they fit perfect. I've tried the Jofa, Itech, Missions and CCMs, but they all squeeze my noggin. Of the newer models, the RBK is the most comfortable for me, and the CCM is torture. So it all comes down to specific head shape. By all means try to find one to try on before you order it. It's not a good deal if you get a splitting headache the first time you play a game with it.
