Holes in Skates

Recommended Posts

do you really think your cotton or polly socks are going to keep the germs from getting into your foot? Unless you are wearing some kind of plastic glove for a foot or some kind of sock that is immune to germs, you are no more or less likely to get an infection.

Air your gear out when your done playing- dont leave it zipped up in your bag, in your cars trunk for a week and then wonder why it smells so bad. I dont wear socks when I skate, skate about 5 times a week during the winter and my skates dont smell horrible

So your saying that these guys didnt det these infections from an open sore on there feet and hands?

The socks will help getting the growing mold to yur open sore.....

thats not what i was saying at all. You do get a staph infection from germs getting into an open cut or sore, but thinking that wearing cotton socks is going to help prevent staph infections is crazy. As soon as that sock becomes wet with sweat (5 minutes maybe?), it dose nothing except take up space between your foot and your skate.

I realize thats what you wear saying but if you had a cover on the cut the sock would help keep it in place as with a barefoot it would most likely come off.

Just why take the chance....and I never heard of anyone getting the staph infection from wearing socks?

Wow, I guess I'm lucky i didnt get a STAPH infection last year, when I was playing Roller hockey last year at school (after school), my mentally disabled teacher gave me a slash to my ankle which caused me to trip since I'm not that great with my balance on blades. In the ensuing fall I managed to scrape the palm of my hand (I forgot my gloves that day). Later that day I had hockey practice and I'm surprised it didn't get infected.

BTW, the pointless rant just ended here.

Okay No I don't wear socks. I have a pair of Nike V12's. Love them The best skates ever. I think I have gone past the point of no return. They didn't used to stink this bad. I am still alittle hesitant about drilling holes in my skates maybe I will try it with an older pair and see if it actually makes any differance in temperature and sweat amount. Thanks for all the help and advice. i really appreciate it.

You guys must be referring to community acquired MRSA (methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus).

CDC MRSA site

"Factors that have been associated with the spread of MRSA skin infections include: close skin-to-skin contact, openings in the skin such as cuts or abrasions, contaminated items and surfaces, crowded living conditions, and poor hygiene."

I guess wearing smelly skates over blistered feet would cover at least three of the of the above factors.
