Cage

Recommended Posts

I dont know if this tip will help, but I know some people that spray paint the inside of their cage white (if it is not already white). That way I guess the cage blends in with the ice. I had it and didnt really notice anything.

I just hate those shinny cages. Couldnt stand it for 5 minutes.

I've been using the Bauer 4000/Jofa combo for years. Works fine.

Same here, no problems at all. White or chrome will blend in with the ice better then black and make the bars almost disapear. I prefer the chrome cages but you really don't notice the bars when you're playing anyway.

Bauer makes a new cage called the Oval True Vision Cage. It is chrome and Nike Bauer states it has the best vision out of all the cages on the market. I love it, I have it on my Nike Bauer 5500 Helmet. If you wear small, get a size small, medium, size medium, and large, get a large cage.

I also use a nike 004 with a ccm/jofa cage and it works great also.

I noticed a fairly big difference in perceived vision going from a black cage to a chrome cage. Will never go back to black, if I have the option.

You can make any cage fit almost any helmet. The upper clips that screw the cage on to the helmet come in either straight or L shaped, so no matter what the cage design, you can screw it on. Your local shop should have a bunch of them. BTW, I also use a Bauer 4000 with a Jofa cage, though I've also used a chrome Itech and a black Bauer. Except for the Bauer cage weighing a ton, I don't remember much about the visibility. I guess you get used to whatever have.

I've got the The Oval Wire True Vision (8500) on my Itech HC100, and I love the combo. Mine is Titanium colored (dark grey)instead of chrome, however. The first thing I noticed about the 8500 over my old 4000 was the weight- or lack thereof. That and the sweet sweet floating chincup with nike dri-fit.

itech have thos cages stock, the RBE III, and the call it the I2, inside white to help see the puck better, ie and boards are white, so it helps the bars be less noticeable, and having a black helmet (which is like 90%) with a white cage looks bad, itech has patented that so unless you do it yourself thats the only one out there you will find.

This is a question I can answer, without having a cage (yet). As long as you're not changing the structure of a cage, e.g. cutting things off, it should remain certified. Hope that helps.

If I recall correctly, there was a picture of a girl with a pink cage in USAHockey magazine during nationals, so i'm sure they wouldnt put a picture of an illegal piece of equipment in there.
