My buddy who is in aeronautical school was telling me that all of this could have been prevented, which is the sad part.

yeah, my dad said people have tried to get that runway extended for years, but no 1 wanted it extended......

now i bet theyd agree to extend it

I was watching the news and it said the crash may have been caused by the plane taking off the wrong runway, which was shorter than the one it was supposed to take off of.

The same thing happend a year or two ago up here in Halifax. A big cargo jet (Boeing 747) was loaded with tractors and computers, and took off on the wrong runway here at the Halifax International Airport. Didn't even get fully in the air and plowed into powerlines and just went down. Killed the 7 crew on board. Not as tragic as this but tragic nontheless.

the only reason this is a huge deal is becuase it rarely happens, thank god.

i mean this is efinately the worst thing to happen around here for aLONG LONG time. they have started to release names and everyone seems to know someone that was killed. its been a very touchy subject.

I´m working at DUS airport and they were talking about the extension of the runway here as well. Fortunately nothing like this ever happened here. Two big things happening this year were a Cargo 747 that went past the runway knocking down a radar post and nearly falling down onto a highway loosing two engines and the landing gear on the way. The other was a domician refugee climbing up the landing gear and hiding. He flew from the Dominican Republic over to Germany, then to Cuba and then back to Germany where a mechanic finally found him frozen to death.

Just turned on the news and theres a breaking news reports on CNN, about how a jet had a fire start in the landing gear, but they managed to evactuate everyone from the plane, and control the fire.

Regarding the Conair crash, on last night's news they were saying that the pilot and the co-pilot first got on the wrong plane and it's someone working on the tarmak that told them they were on the wrong plane. They they board the right plane but take the wrong take off lane. They are supposedly experienced pilot / co-pilot too... The air traffic controller also turned his back right after advising them they were good for take off.. he could have noticed their fatal mistake if he would have kept a watch on the plane like he was supposed too.
