Gagne

Recommended Posts

Anybody here know whats going on between him and the flyers? Obviously the cap is going to play huge factor in the Philly getting him resigned, espicially since Primeau is looking to come back. I'm just wonering if someone closer to Philadelphia has heard any rumours about Gagne getting signed or traded or what...

He wants to be paid real money and the Flyers can't afford it. I don't think many teams have that much cap space at this point and the Flyers have a bit of an advantage since they acquired Calder and no teams have the $5M left.

Yeah, the Flyers are having a tough time giving him what he wants. Not too long ago some rumours were sending him to Vancouver for Naslund, but Naslund said that he had no wish in leaving Vancouver.

I just can't see the flyers passing on with Gagné. After Forsberg, he's their best player. He's the number 1 winger, and their aren't many players as good as him in the league. When you have someone like him, you better do everything yu can to keep him around. My guess is that the flyers are trying to trade some people away to clear some cap space, that's why it's taking so long.

Before the lockout the team didn't think that highly of him, Clarke and Hitchcock both questioned him publicly. I don't see Gagne doing them any favors in order to get signed. The Naslund thing was a joke as he's making even more than Gagne wants and the Flyers can't afford Gagne.

The Flyers pretty much srewed themselves up with the 7 mil. that are locked on Hatcher and Rathje.

Even if they didn't think highly of him, you just can't let your best goal scorer go. Primeau's gonna come back, but he's nowhere near as good as Gagne. The closest goal scorer in Philadelphia is Mike Knuble, with 34, while Gagne had 47(also consider that Knuble played 10 games more than Gagne). Than you drop to Carter with 23 goals. It would be pretty stupid to let Gagne go, unless you get another 50 goals scorer in exchange. Without Gagne, the Flyers won't even have a chance to contend for the cup. Their D is crappy, their goaltending is nowhere near the best teams, so the only thing they can rely on is their offense. Therefore, they would be out of their minds to let their most consistent player, after Forsberg, go. Plus Gagne doesn't get injured that often, to the contrary of Forsberg, who hasn't played a full season since god knows when.

Keith has been very nice to me and he seems like a great guy, but the length of time it has taken him to recover from the last couple concussions seems to indicate that there is a serious problem. I can understand not wanting to retire when he feels like he still have more to give and walking away from something you love can be hard.

A guy I know meets Gagne a few times per summer for some charity golf tournament and some poker with mutual friends. The last he's heard from Gagne himself is that they are somewhat close to a deal. The thing is, Gagne shouldn't do the Flyers any favor but on the same token, if they don't come to an agreement, is Gagne ready to sit out a full season or go play in Russia or something? So who really has the edge?

While Gagne was Philly's best goal scorer last season, I wouldn't say that he is a 50 goal scorer on his own. He not only hasn't hit 50 yet, but his previous high was 33. Forsberg could make me score 50 goals if he wanted to. Knuble is another guy that benefits from Forsberg's presence. Anybody remember him when he was on the Rangers? no? that's because he didn't have Jumbo Joe Thornton or Forsberg dishing him the puck so that he could score 30+. If the Flyers pick up a 25-30 goal scorer for Gagne, for less money than he's asking, it's a steal. Forsberg makes everyone around him better.

dude is a lock for a team Canada that could send 3 teams and all medal so give him his money...

GM's messed up the league by giving young guys these big contracts...

Lets not forget that guys like Stall, Spezza, Tanguay, Bergeron, Crosby, Briere where left off teams that he makes...

He needs to sit still and wait for the brinks truck

funny how guys are easy to point out a loss like that, understand this, Canada goes to these tournaments and expect to win, everybody else participates...

Canada is always favorite ae these tournaments, be clear about that...

Even thru the change of the guards, Lemieux, Yzerman, Bourque retirering, the team is still favorite, retire 3 best players on any other contry and they dont win a game...

It's nice that you're proud of your country but with one gold medal in 50 years, only Canadians expect Canada to win every tournament. Better coaching next time around may help but the reality is, there are a number of countries that can win any major international tournament.

Canada has the best depth of any country and far and away the most above average players. Problem is, we can't identify who the actual top players are and pick horrible management.

I think the problem is that they do pick the top players and not the top team. I can't remember the last time that an all-star mentality won a team a gold.

Its called team chemistry. Sometimes you have it, sometimes you don't. Putting Pat Quinn behind the bench was the beginning of the end.

Exactly. I hate to sound all Miracle, but all star teams don't win now that the game has become so defensive. Although I will say it must be hard for the staff of Team Canada to leave big name players like St Louis, Bertuzzi, Doan, etc. off the team and replace them with "worse" players.

If they were smart they look at who is ripping the NHL up (thorton/cheechoo/s.thorton)

boom line one. stop worring who's the best players are put the best lines that would work, you cant expect guys who are 1st liners on their team and play 20+ min a game to play a 4th line role play 4-7min a game they won't be able to.

just my 2 cents.

I agree with you on Cheechoo + Thornton, but Scott Thornton is pushing it.

I just meant that they played together and S.Thorton did all the dirty work and played his role as the grinder for J.Thorton/Cheechoo

Basicaly I'm say take some guys that play together already and also some guys who mabey aren't top level but some role players instead.
