epoxy on the shaft of the stick

Recommended Posts

i dunno if a crack is developing on my wood stick...

but it looks like one (will try to post a pic)

(i never noticed this line before... bcoz i didnt bother inspecting it)

can epoxy help prevent it from further cracking?

If you clamp or tie up the section being epoxied you should end up with a very strong joint.

agree with ktang

just put some epoxy where the crack is, use the spatula to try and spread some into the crack itself... use some of those heavy duty clips (office ones that are used to hold large amounts of paper togther) or just some C Clamps or something... the joint should hold real well, even with slapshots...

cost of epoxy, cost of clamps, cost of metal spatula, time it takes to fix it, maybe it works, maybe it doesn't....

Just buy another woody?

Exactly..

Epoxy is brittle anyways and will probably break down quickly anyways.

Not true, in fact the better sticks are assembled with epoxy.

If you need it to seep into the crack, just apply a little heat from a blow dryer or heat gun & it'll run like water. But be carefull, heat makes epoxy cure faster,so you have to be quick with the clamps especially if you're using quick setting epoxy.

If the crack runs with the grain, the repair should be stronger than original. If it's across the grain, then forget it.

Consider using some 1/2 inch or so wood screws and some hockey tape. We used to fix wooden baseball bats this way for senior ball back before they had alumininum. They usually ended up lasting forever.

Is the crack in the shaft? If so it would seem that putting epoxy on the shaft would stick out and feel awkward. It sounds like this stick should be put on garage duty and you should invest in a new primary stick.
