Jr. Shinguard Suggestions Needed

Recommended Posts

My daughter is currently playing a pretty high level of hockey, and I feel that her current shinguards may be giving her trouble. She has now gotten bruised pretty severely after they shifted on her when she was checked from behind into the boards. She currently wears a 2005 model CCM 862. I was wondering what are member thoughts on this pad, and whether there are more protective pads on the market in Jr. sizes (more protective pads in RBK/Jofa only start at 14"). She is currently in a 13" size. When the pads shift, does this indicate that there is a problem with the pad, or the user? Your thoughts are appreciated.

First, the 862 is not a regular retail CCM shin pad, rather a SMU probably made up for a discount chain store, so not much is known about it.

You can't go wrong with a RBK shin, Jofa really. The 6k is a very protective model.

BTW, there may be nothing wrong with what she has now, if it's "shifting", why not use clear stretch tape to hold it in place. VERY few jrs have hard enough shots to cause damage the jr shin pads, despite the "high " level of hockey they may play..

Jofa/Rbk 5K, 7K or 8K. I'd leave the 6k alone because of the top thigh cuff. It sometimes catches the bottom of your hockey pants and holds up the pant leg.

I wear a 13" in the Bauer 6000. I bought the pad b/c my knees were getting beat up pretty badly fron getting my feet swept out from under me. They have a nice strap that goes all the way around the leg which helps keep them in place. I also use sock tape to really keep them from moving. The liner on them also pulls out so it can be washed.
