Canucks

Recommended Posts

Canucks have shown poor performance. Although their "real" first line wasn't at the both game, Calgary and San Jose, I think they aren't meeting my least expectations. Canucks finally got good goalie, Luongo, he is not worth 6.75 million $. Let's see how it goes.

He hasn't even played a whole game yet. How are you disappointed? Did you honestly expect him to have a shut out in his first pre season game with his new team?

Wait until the regular season to judge. Matt Cooke was the only regular in the lineup against Calgary, and they still had a lot of rookies in last night against a fairly-loaded San Jose lineup. Don't put too much stock in the preseason, especially for Luongo's half game preformance, unless you look at the progression and adjustments of the rookies. Bourdon got absolutely torched by Michalek on the first goal, so mistakes will happen.

sharks had pretty much a good chunk of their regular lineup, had salo, naslund and morrison been there we probably would've won. Big deal, Luongo lost a pre-season game, it's not the end of the world.

i don't understand why some people put stock on pre-season games....they're usually not indictive of regular season performance, the Canucks usually suck in pre-seasons

I know they didn't end up winning the BIG GAME...but If I recall correctly...the combined preseason records of the 4 years that Buffalo won the AFC in the early 90's was like 3-13...0-4 the first year (I think)

Preseason is for evaluating talent...If the team doesn't win in the preseason..it means the kids aren't ready to play in the NHL and they go down to the "A" or Jr's and develop more. The only preaseason game that really matter is the last one before the Regular season starts. That's usually the full regualr roster in a final tune up.

also remember Luongos not familiar with the way the players in the West shoot

that seems like a pretty far out excuse... East/West does it matter, hockey players shoot the puck, and he's supposed to stop it

It's the pre-season, you get a better idea of how the AHL team is going to be than you do the NHL team. It's hilarious to see people say how such and such was so awesome or horrible then name a list of six or seven key players that didn't play in the games.

Yeah that was def. a dumb thing to say. Think about it, according to your theory, Jerome Iginla's shot would change if he went to Atlanta. Also, I'm sure a ton of players who play in the west have at some point played in the east.

In baseball there is a major change in hitters/pitchers if you go from the AL to the NL or vice versa and it takes time to pick up on tendecies all over again. The same change exists in the NHL, but to a much smaller degee because you play a wider variety of teams and the scheduale isn't as heavily weighted on a team's performance against its division - Toronto missed the playoffs because they couldn't beat Ottawa and Buffalo though.

Bottomline, it will take some time for Luongo to become totally comfortable in his new surroundings and him keeping in and or stealing the team games should offset the loss of offence with Bert, Carter and Jovo gone.

Luongo is just about the only goalie besides brodeur that deserves more that 6mill. He'll prove to you how good he is soon enough.

he was never pulled in that way he was only gonna play half the game, it just pre season and he's just getting in shape for the reg. he's not gonna go out and try to make unbeleiveable sves and risk getting injurd in pre season. They just want him to get back up to speed of the game

i'm not saying that his shot would change

i'm saying he's not familiar with the way players are shooting and where they like to shoot, im not making this up it's straight from Luongo's mouth

Alot of goalies struggle early in camp when they start out with new teams. Belfour was boo'ed every pre-season game in his first year in Toronto. He played awesome during the season as well, which was a bit of a surprise. It takes time to get used to your D, get the communication right and learn the overall team philosophy.

If the Panthers can get the NHL to abolish the shootout, belfour will be great.

Only in Vancouver. Fans all over a goalie after two half games with a depleted defence against arguably the best two teams in the Western Conference

Don't lump all Vancouver fans in with the original poster. I've had to listen to a few people who know nothing about hockey say "Yeaaa...the Canucks aren't playing very well yet" and I've had to explain over and over that they shouldn't even look at the results in preseason since only about 20% of the people in the lineup will be there Oct 5th.

NextRedden is the FIRST person whom I've heard make a comment about Luongo being a dissapointment in Vancouver. It's been two preseason games...PRESEASON. I think I speak for all of us in the City of Vancouver when I say "SHUT YOUR MOUTH". Thank you.
