Intermediate or Senior?

Recommended Posts

I've looked everywhere for a definitive answer, and to date I have not found one. I'm 5'8, 150 lbs. I've been told by some people that I should be using an 85 flex senior stick, while others tell me I should move down to an intermediate 75 flex. At the moment, I'm using a Warrior Dolomite 85 Flex, and I absolutely love it. The only thing wrong with it is that I think it might be a touch too stiff for me; if it was a touch flexier, it would be perfect. I've always used an 85 flex, but they have always felt stiff to me.

Last week I went into my LHS, and the guy working there told me I should try to use a stick w/ a flex approximately half my body weight, and consequently move down to an intermediate. The only reason I'm hesistant to do so is that I have fairly large hands for my height, and an intermediate shaft would feel like a toy in my hands. The larger radius of senior sticks fits me fine. Any suggestions?

You answered your own question, 85's are too stiff for you. Try something less, 77 Bauer, mid-flex CCM/RBK, or a 75 Easton for example.

if i were you i would go with an easton 75 flex.

the only problem is that youll have to get an older model easton since now they do 65 flex intermediates

Easton is now making a Senior sized 75 flex in addition to the 65 flex intermediate.

I'm 5'10" 145lbs and I use a Int Dolomite 70. The shaft does feel smaller compared to my Senior Z-Bubble but it doesn't make that much of a difference. The improvement in flex more than makes up for it.

Another thing I forgot to mention- you may like the feel of the thinner shafts. I'm a big guy, and I use a 95 flex Easton Cyclone (standard shaft) . It's got rounded edges and a smaller shaft shape, and was originally designed for those with smaller hands and women. Works great for me though. I actually like the rounded edges. It also comes in a 70 flex version.

Even if you're not looking for a shaft, a smaller radius may work for you. The dolomite shape is smaller than a lot of other OPS anyway. (it's the smallest shape I have, and i've got mission, easton, tps, and bauer.)

I'm 6ft tall, and about 210lbs... been using an intermediate 75 flex for quite a whiles now, and i just love the smaller profile of the shaft...

I would go for a cyclone, which is my fav of all time...but have been getting some difficulty in getting one

i'm also 5'8 & weigh a little less than you. i'm using a warrior 75 flex sr now. i actually wanted the 70 flex int, but it's not much different. my other stick is a 70 flex easton cyclone, which i only prefer because of the thinner shaft.
