Radius Question

You CAN improve your skating.. but nobody can tell you what radius is good for you until they see you skate.

Not true, one does not need to see another skate to evaluate them. After asking a series of specific questions, you can ascertain enough information to come up with a radius of hollow to start the skater on. Then after feedback, fine tune adjustments can be made.

Right off the bat, I can say that Snipee will likely skate better on a shallower hollow, simply based on his/her body weight. The height is also used to evaluate rocker radius.

It does not improve your skating. Finding the correct radius removes an impediment to skating but it doesn't give you a skill that you didn't have before.

Yup, you are absolutely right. I have many customers who thank me for the improvements, but I always tell them, you had it inside you, I just made it easier.

Would the radius have anything to do with stopping problems? My left skate always skips across the ice when stopping with right skate first.

No, that's form and potentially hollow.

I had a similar problem when I first started playing Ice (longtime roller player) but the issue was with the outer leg skipping over the ice, not the inner. I went to a shallower hollow and immediately saw results. I'm also a bigger guy, and im skating on a 9/16ths" hollow with an 11' radius (stock radius on my skates)

A Shallower hollow will not be as stable, but you'll get a whole lot more glide out of it, and stopping should be easier.
