Drying/Keeping equipment while in a dormroom..

Recommended Posts

I was lucky, 1) my roomate and I both played hockey and 2) we had a room in part of the dorm that had a little hallway and stairwell where we could air out the gear. Granted everyone who walked by hated us for the smell we didnt care.

Besides finding a roomate who plays as well and wouldn't mind the smell, i would say first find a place to air out the gear. Then I would get one of those storage bins that fits underneath your bed. I had one of those and after I aired out the gear and it was dry I packed up everything in the bin and slide it under my bed.

Another solution is to invest in what I think is called a 'Time Mister' Its a battery powered spray that every 15 minutes or so sprays a mist that covers up the hockey smell. They had them all over the locker rooms in college and I managed to steal one for my apartment. As long as you can find a spray you think smells good they work fine.

I just throw my stuff in the bathroom, smells like shit in there anyway.

Or you could take it outside and let it air out and while you are out there study or something, but winter might revent that.

You must have a window so hang some gear out the window, might not be able to do all of it at once but its better than nothing.

You think that would work with those windows you pull into the room to open.. We have the style of window where you turn the handle half a turn and pull it inwards..i dont know if i'd be able to get it out there very well..

thanks for the suggestions though everyone. It looks like that shockdoctor air flow bag would be the easiest, cause there is a vent in the side of my closet, and my closets right beside the door out into the hall..or hell i could just set it out in the hall with the fan on..

Is that bag durable? Does the fan last a long time? Its gonna get beat up being put in the bottom of my closet and stuff..plus just normal hockey use wear and tear..

I don't know how small your dorm rooms are, I know mine were pretty small, but there is always room on the floor to lay out your gear and have a fan blow on it to dry it out, it only takes a few hours, you can do it while you are at class then when you come back pack it up. Also you could build what we called a loft, or a bunk bed without the bottom part, and hang your gear under there or just lay it under there and have a fan blow on it. The key is to keep it from starting to smell and drying it out helps.

I have the bag/blower.....it's really too new to determine durability. Its big and gets thrown around - so far it seems pretty tough. Shock Doctor claims it to be very strong. I am going to post two bags in the classifieds - one is a display bag - very close to the production bag. Shock Doctor replaced it, so I have no need for it. However, the replacement has a minor flow in the inside liner. They will send me another one. Both are discounted accordingly.
