Broken SL

Recommended Posts

So this weekend, i broke the blade on my SL(06 model) and i need to by a new balde for it. My LHS, doesn't have that big of a selection, no tapered blades except for a L2 blade. i was thinking of getting a st blade for my stick, how is the balane when the two are paired together? If i'm going to put a standard blade i'm i better off, puting the blade in the other end of the shaft or cutting a bit higher the broken end? Any i would also like some reviews on the blade

thank you, michael9

how much lenght would i lose if i decide to put in a standard blade in the bottom, how much lenght would would i lose what is the difference between a tapered and a standard cutting place.

i think you will loses less length if you put a tapered blade in... if you want a blade in the tapered end, if you do the tapered blade thing you will prolly need an longer end plug because you will lose a few inches in length. if you cut it to put a standard blade it will be even shorter.

so i just came back from my LHS, i was going to buy an easton hyrid blade( http://sportsrousseau.com/Magic94Scripts/m...,-A,-ARBHYBPRO), i wanted to shave some of it off so it would fit in the tapered end.( i hate the feel of the tapered end in my hand feels wierd) he says he can't to that i say ok. i put that one back and i chose a L2 blade( http://sportsrousseau.com/Magic94Scripts/m...RB,-A,-ARBL2SR). he then tells me i can't put that one in the tapered end either. i tell him the blade it's a tapered blade, it's smaller, it will fit. he tells me that you can't but any blade tapered or standard in the tapered end, not just for an sl, but for all ops. I then tell him never mind and i leave the store. I was postive you could fit a tapered blade in an ops. anyways i'll just do it my self tonight, i'll buy a blade at the pro-shop at my game today and fix it at home.

that guy doesnt know what hes talking about... you definatly can do it, as thats all most ops are. a tapered shaft with a blade fused to it.. infact im prolly gonna go pickup an tapered blade for my si core shaft today.

SL + Z-carbon. best combo ever, i'm playing with that since 1 years and a half now! Never broke a blade, broke 1 shaft.

I'm assuming you flipped the shaft over. This guy says he doesn't like the tapered part of the shaft where his hands are.

BTW, Michael9, let us know how it went with the L2+SL.

Sorry. Maybe i misunderstood because i can't see where he said that. ANYWAYS.

At the tapered end, I always put a wood-plug that why I don'have this problem.

Solution #2(it work) Put some layer of clear tape and then tape it with your regular cloth tape and you will see it will be the same thickness.

I helped a friend convert his and we cut just before we got the the start of the E and chissled out about 1+1/2" of crap.

If the stick broke in the blade area, you can cut the blade out, and put the composite butt end in and still use a tapered blade. You should lose much, if any, length at all. I broke mine at the blade, did this, and it was a perfect fit for me.

M1+ hybrid synthesis+ endplug = awesome.

if you cut about 2.5-3"above the fusepoint you dont need to chisel anything. just put a strip or 2 of tape on the hosel when you put it in.

edit: I've also got a "cut n flip" SL with a standard Ultralite Blade in it. works well for me. I actually like the tapered end, however, as I like a smaller shaft dimension (the sticks I use them ost are my Dolomite, Vapor XX, Cyclone)

so i bought an easton composite pro blade, and i put the tapered end in the top, to much hassel for no reason if i want to put it in the other end. i'll try to get pics and a review on it soon.

didn't have to, i used a junoir plug , and i put some clear pad tape like one of the other members suggested, hopefully it goes good. i got a sakic curve, which i have never tried before. shouldn't bit to hard to switch from my lidstrom sinc ethey look somewhat the same and have the same lie.

i broke the blade on my sl as well and i put a standard blade in the top, does it work better to put a tapered in the blade end? and how do you know where to cut it for this?

i cut my sl as low as i could go without having to take any of the stuff out of the bottom of the shaft. i put a tapered vapor xx blade in with a couple pieces of cloth tape and it feels perfect and doesnt move around at all. i like it so much more than a one piece.

flipping it over and just insert a normal blade into it. The taper part is not really an issue, if you feel that its too narrow or small, just add more tape...

^using a tapered blade will give the stick a closer feel/balance/ performance to a OPS.

Synergy II blades are the same as SL blades. (Synergy II is"a "SL in two piece form" - straight from the Horse's mouth.)
