hockeyshmockey10 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2006 i was speaking with the manager of the service area at my lhs. him and i were talking about my skates when i first got them (custom 9k's). i was skating in bauer all of my life so whatever the stock (9ft radius i believe). anyway so my skates came and we got them sharpened and fixed up to a 9 ft radius to mimic how bauer skates are. he ended up putting a 9 foot +1 on there. my problem is that i don't feel as agile on the skates. i have always been a quick player and the speed has always been my strength but even in adult leagues...i seem to be really lacking with my speed. i don't have quick starts and i have been caught on break-aways a number of times.i guess i'm asking, was this the right move for me? should i put tuuks on? maybe i can get some help from someone who is much more experienced then him. he thinks he knows a lot, but really when you ask him this type of stuff...he responds with "whatever you want"
MLSman 22 Report post Posted October 2, 2006 I had the same issue.I switched to a Tuuk, but it did not help. The boot for me never felt responsive, and I even tried a half size smaller than I usually do to get a more snug fit. The boot felt a bit heavy, so I just didn't feel the jump that I am used to.I went back to Bauers because of that "jump" I feel in their skate.
djinferno 2 Report post Posted October 2, 2006 if speed is your game, then changing brands will make you feel that way, you could get use to it but most likely, you need to modify your aproach....I was skating in a Swiss Graf 703, after having a bad experience with the Canada manufacter, I changed to Mission, it's been 2 years in Missions and that "Feel/Jump" I can never duplicate, it's just skate construction VS foot...If you still feel this way in a month or so, try to sell them, you will lose a little but not much IMO
chippa13 1844 Report post Posted October 2, 2006 It could be a number of things, from the flex of the boot, natural pitch of the skate, to just being a different skate. There are so many things that could be different switching from skate to skate and even moreso when you switch brands.

So, the 9' on the new skate is likely longer than what you were skating on. That could be part of it.
hockeyshmockey10 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2006 thanks jimmy...didn't think of that with the blade...could be itto be honest...this has been the only boot that has 100% fit my foot perfectly. plus its custom to my foot shape so i'm not going to give it up. i love the skates, i just wish i could get quicker on them and feel that jump again. hockeyshmockey10 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2007 i felt like i should update this thread i started forever ago. i got the contouring done to my e-holders and they felt much better. but i still didn't get that snap that i had in my other bauer skates.a week ago i bought some tuuks off of a member here and had them installed. i didn't have anything done to them except sharpen at 7/16".i adjusted in about five minutes, my turning...starts...breakaway speed was unreal. people were stopping me, asking if i have been on something. i felt like i was back in high school all over again.i guess the bottom line on this was that i love the tuuks that were put on and wish i got it done in the first place...
