Dante2004 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2006 Well...I grew up in MI and there was hockey everywhere. I moved away a few years ago :-( But we are planning on moving back in about a year. I have been reading a lot about the economy in MI and about how so many people are losing their jobs (auto industry). I have also noticed that a few of the rinks I used to play at are closed.So...what is the state of the game right now? Is it still growing? The reason I am concerned is that I love to coach hockey and I want to continue to be involved anyway I can as soon as I move back. Older competitive levels ~15 or older. Are these leagues growing? Shrinking? About the same. I haven't been in MI since 2003. Looking for info on BOTH ice and roller. Specifically in the greater Detroit area, but curious about the entire state as a whole as well. Thanks guys!
Chadd 916 Report post Posted October 17, 2006 Nationwide USAH numbers are only growing because the girls game is exploding. If not for that, the numbers would be down.
chikinpotpie 137 Report post Posted October 17, 2006 Are you from Flint? I grew up in Kalamazoo and go back to visit every once in a while. It seems that the game is still strong there mainly because of the K-Wings and WMU but there is a new rink on the west side of town But I'm not sure about registered players. No. Grew up near Lansing and then moved to Clinton Township for a few years...now live in Florida. The hockey is brutal down here. :(
