handsomedevil 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2006 I was wondering if the 5000/5500 gel packs still fall off easy and/or get hard? Also, I know the intake is still pretty new but I'm wondering if anyone has had trouble with gel packs falling off or getting hard on the intake? Maybe I'm just being paranoid because of the gel pack problems on some 5000. I know fit is most important but I want something that I won't have to constantly replacing or fixing. dieselbro 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2006 I have experienced the gel packs getting hard on my 5000 helmet, so I actually switched to an Intake recently (approx. 1 month ago) and theres no lookin back, I love the way the intake feels on my head. The Intake actually does not have gel packs, it is called a gel foam so after every ice time they might be a little compressed, but after a couple hours or so they are back to what they normally look like

KYHockey3 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2006 i had these problems with my 5000's, but my 8000s have had no trouble with this, i would recommend the 8000 over the 5000, but i havent tried the intake.+900+
jimmy 194 Report post Posted October 23, 2006 They do fall off. On occasion I find them at the bottom of the helmet's box. Just yesterday I found a gel piece on the floor. Checked all the helmets in stock and all had theirs, so it must have been a helmet that a customer bought. I guess they never noticed it missing. I think it could be related to storage/temp problems, i.e, high temp in warehouses or delivery vans/containers. I don't think you have to worry about it, if one comes loose just contact cement it back in. Can't recall anyone complaining about them getting hard, so must be isolated issue. Havent heard any intake problems either.

KYHockey3 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2006 The gel packs on my 5000 leaked. eww, did it get everywhere?it was covered by a warranty wasnt it?
Meathead 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2006 I never checked if it was still under warranty, I was wearing it for about a year/year and a half when it started. I eventaully just ripped out the front padding and used some mineral spirits to get the stickyness off the helmet.

dix0r 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2006 no intake problems yet - and i got mine within a couple days of them showing up at hockey giant. the gel foam does compress a bit, but i wear my helmet pretty damn tight, and i haven''t noticed any loss of comfort...really it's only noticeable if that's what you're looking for. AnthonyJTa 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2006 like someone mentioned.... the Intake dosen't have actual gel packs.. it's a 'gel foam'. Again, they do compress, but the blue ink also comes off on your head (minor issue, obviously)- so if you shave your head, expect weird blue lines all over it. Drying is also rather critical... the gel foam tends to retain the mosture way more than the EPP foam, so if you don't dry it- chances are it will be wet when you plop it on again. sabre09923 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2006 My intake is still going strong, and I've had it for 2+ months. As for the 5000, my brother had one and the gel packs got hard after 4 months. And when I say hard, I mean it too, they wouldn't budge at all and it seemed really uncomfortable.
dix0r 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2006 i apparantly jinxed the comment i made about my intake holding up perfectly. i posted that yesterday, and just today i looked at my helmet and found that the gel foam padding is coming off rather strangely...not from the EPP padding, but the foam padding itself is breaking up...hard to explain. still a great helmet, just hoping it won't continue to "degrade"
