Time for a new helmet

Recommended Posts

I have a fairly odd shaped head, a cone-head if you will (See Kevin Weekes). Of all the helmets on the market, the RBK is the only one that seems to conform to every contour of my head; all the others seem to rotate on the apex on my "coned" area regardless of the setting. Problem is $200 CAD is a god-aweful lot of money to spend on a helmet used primarily in non-contact beer league; playing once a week. I want to keep the price low $100 or less and the only helmet in that range that fits remotely comfortably is the Bauer 4000. I was just curious as to whether or not adding padding to fill up the 'negative space' in the 4000 will work to improve fit and whether or not it will breach any CSA rules and make my more succeptible in injury

Have you looked at the RBK 6k helmet? not really sure how much it goes for, but I think it fits like the 8k. Should be worth looking into.

Yup, looked into it, it's missing that one adjustable piece that really locked my head in place which is what I really liked about it. Even still, it costs $130 CAD

So I take it your not down with the "Eggshell" Jofa helmets from a few years back. Loved the euro kazoo lids.

All kidding aside, for Jason16 have you tried the Mission Intake? One of the few newer Helmets that I liked and fit my head well. Really all Personal Preference.

this is your head your protecting, spare no expense! perhaps you could save your beer money for a little while to build up the extra $100 you would need to get the helmet.. just an idea..

I've tried every single helmet that is presently on the market and that includes the Intake. Still have a hard time making it fit depth wise. The Intake and 8000 have a really harsh contact point at the top of my head and the helmet thus sits uncomfortably high and will not sit straight on my head. The temporal, occiptal and frontal padding are all positioned very uncomfortably. The 8k for one reason or another just seems to hug my head very well but I don't know why, the internal padding looks to be positioned the same. The only downside is the obscene price tag. I've also noticed that, it could be just an isolated incident, that the plastic outer shell seems a little too maleable for a supposed high end helmet. I'll probably just stick to my 7 year old modified 5000 and keep gluing the gel pads back on...

When you're a college student living on campus, there is no such thing as 'saving money'. I spare nary a penny. Plus the beer is free, the owner of the campus pub plays with us.

Donations are welcome though

We really need a sarcasm smiley...

Keystone seems to be the official beer for colleges. We have a similar deal here as well
