More flex...

I don't have the hardest of shots so I was wondering if Warrior Dolomite shaft 75 flex would be wippier then an Easton Synergy II shaft 85 flex. Ive heard that different companies use different flex ratings.

It should be a tad bit whippier. How much do you cut your sticks?

I over cut my Synergy II by three inches, so a total of 6 inches if I recall. I was sizing it up against my older Synergy Si Core with a traditional blade and forgot that the tapered blade would be shorter.

I also have a Mission M2 shaft which is a 100 flex, I never cut it and it it waaay to stiff. I got it for $20 though, LHS was going out of business. The Synergy IIs stiffness doesn't compare to the Missions but I wouldn't mind a little more flex.

If you want a more flex than an Easton 85, try a TPS whip flex. I went from an 85 Synergy to a Whip R2 shaft and noticed alot of difference.

Also try going to a longer stick. I've got a Warrior Fedorov blade in the R2 which has a low lie, allowing me a little extra length in the stick.

Check the NBH catalog for how cutting down your stick affects flex.

As far as the Warrior 75 flex goes, I've heard Warrior flexes run a little stiffer by comparison, so maybe somwhere between an Easton 85 and a TPS whip?. No personal experience though.

Longer stick wouldn't benefit me at all really. Ive tried to length my stick and affects my stickhandling and shot. Im more of a puck control/playmaker so the shorter stick suites me well.

try an easton 75 flex. moving down from 85-75 made the world of difference for me!

Sounds like a plan but now I have a $100 shaft that I have no use for :(

Yeah, your gonna have trouble selling that shaft shaft if you really did hack 6 inches off. The TPS whip flex would be good for you if you like SR shaft dimensions and the wider selection of blades. Heres a couple good shafts that come in the whip flex for reasonable prices. Good luck.

So will the stick perform best if its not cut at all? I think I can pull off 48 inches. I would prefer a stick that has no wooden butt end though, it drives me crazy. I had to keep the factory one on my Synergy because of the hack job.

Don't get me wrong though, its not ridiculously stiff. Like I said above, its not as stiff as my 100 Mission but it doesn't seem to be a 85.

I don't think "best" is quite the way to look at it - what's "best" is a stick the proper length for you and your style of play. And at the proper flex for your height/weight. What people are getting at is the stiffness increases with every inch you cut off.... about + 3% for every inch.

By starting with a shorter stick you cut less off and the stiffness doesn't increase that much.

it's not that the stick will perform the best but it will be closer to what you would expect when buying a certain flex. For example; an uncut 100 flex will feel like a 100 flex and one that has been cut 6" will feel like a 110ish flex.

Personally, I feel that if you can avoid cutting the stick, that's the best option.

One more question on the following shafts:

TPS R2 Armour whip

TPS Redlite Control whip

Are these tapered or just standard, it really doesn't say anything except which composite blade fits it.

Quick note - did you cut 6" off and not use the 3" end plug? If it's 9" shorter than before, then with a little bit of extrapolation (approximately a 5.2% increase in flex with each inch shortened on an 87 flex Bauer) , you're looking at a 125 flex stick.

If it didn't have a 3" end plug, then it would be about 111 flex.

My math on a 6" shortened 100 flex shaft gives me 131 flex.

Considering he is about 6' 1" - it also means his stick is coming up to - where? his navel?

Don't we need to look at what his ideal stick is - and then consider the flex? If the 85 flex stick has been turned into a 120+ flex stick... it might actually be ok if uncut, or cut less.

Considering he is about 6' 1" - it also means his stick is coming up to - where? his navel?

Don't we need to look at what his ideal stick is - and then consider the flex? If the 85 flex stick has been turned into a 120+ flex stick... it might actually be ok if uncut, or cut less.

:P Its not that bad, in skates my stick comes up to my collarbone.
