Warrior Smyth Pictures

Recommended Posts

I decided this should be a new topic since two fairly recent threads were both waiting for Smyth pics. I tried to take pictures I remember people requesting for this and other patterns in the past and tried to take a few from other side angles to try and give it a better representation because it's hard to picture something 3-d from just a few 2-d shots.

Let me know if you would like any other views.

(Old links used to be here.)

Enjoy! I hope this helps.

great pics! thanks a lot. id already ordered one, and id hoped to see it first. im pretty happy with your pics though. it does look a bit different than the pic on the website. more rocker on the toe than i thought.

got my smyth today, its pretty sweet. its basically a modo with a toe on it. it wasnt as extreme as i thought it would be, and it is pretty reasonably closed. its basically a closed sakic in terms of curve, more straight through the heel more curve on the toe - and the toe is cut into a bit (similar to the pro hull, but not as drastic). the lie is so slightly less than a modo, i cant really feel it yet. i compared them to each other off the shaft, and they seemed exact, when i put it on a shaft and held it next to a modo stick - it was just a shade lower, probably from the bigger rocker it has.

ill be trying it tonight on a rink, ill say more tomorrow.

Those are the impressions I had looking at it, that it was basically a Modano with a toe curve. That's been my ideal blade for several years and now someone finally makes it. The one difference I noticed playing with it the first time is that the Smyth is noticably longer. I was losing toe pulls like I used to but I'll adjust. Shooting felt a little different too.

I hope you enjoy the blade though, definitely looking forward to your comments after playing with it. I hope it stays around because it's the best option for a big toe curve with a low lie I've seen in the last few years.

its sweet. i really like it. i have it on a syn 2 shaft, its pretty light. i wasnt losing toe pulls as much - they were actually perfect, but ill have to get use to shooting with it for sure. i was surprised to find i had no problem keeping my shots low, but i always prefered shooting with toe curves anyway (like you, ive had trouble finding good ones with lower lies). its not very open. like i said yesterday, its not as exteme a pattern as i thought it would be. its not as hooked as an yzerman, or coffey - despite it saying its the same 9/16ths as the yzerman. its actually less extreme than sakic, just more hook on the toe. i hated the way the sakic bent open at the heel, taking away from the backhand - this stays pretty straight off the heel and bends more at the toe, which i like. good backhands. my only problem was the blade seems stiffer than eastons tapered blades, and the flex of the shot feels off with the shaft. i may have to try it on a different shaft to get the right snap from it, or just get used to what ive got.

i went from a sakic to a smyth. i'm happy with it, but i actually found i had better backhands with the sakic. dunno why.

& yeah, everyone seems to think it's a really extreme curve. & sometimes i look at it & think it is, but other times it seems minimal.

i got used to the sakic backhand, but it never felt right to me. i hated that i had to turn my body a certain way just to get it on net. only used the smyth once, but the backhands seem more natural to me. i always went back and forth from the sakic to the modo. i liked the lie of the modo, but couldnt play long without a toe.

Hey Opus and Flip, since it seems like we all like the Smyth (and have used Sakics and PM9s/Modos) I'm just curious if you guys are the same size/specs as me.

I'm 6'3" and I use an UL shaft with a 7" end plug. What about you guys?

im 6'4"...and my ul has a 6" end!

thats funny.

i use the smyth on a syn 2 that only needs about a 3-4 incher to be about the same height. maybe there is a correlation to knuckle dragging tall guys and low lies. i was told when i was young tall guys use tall lies. all my blades wore on the heel, so thats kinda crap. i love the rounded toe on the smyth, and the reach is just sweet. its like flip said before, ive wanted a modo with a toe. now that ive found it i feel the need to stock up since its likely the first pattern to go (thats how my luck works).

Are you guys saying the transition from modo/forsberg to smyth is pretty easy?

If so, I think my modo/forsberg is on its way out and a Smyth on its way in.

I'm 6'2.5" (I feel small for once!) and I used to use the curved Modano in an UL with about a 4" plug I believe but now it's much closer to 5.5"/6". I'll measure it when I get home to be exact.

The Smyth blade with an uncut Dolomite shaft is just about perfect. It's maybe an eighth of an inch too long. That is funny how similar our sticks are. I had the worst hands in the world until I curved that Modano--I was trying to go for something like Mogilny's blade--and overnight I could stickhandle with my head up.

Yeah, the transition feels seamless. I hope it works for you because if people buy this pattern while it's out Warrior will be less likely to discontinue it. I guess we've just got to get the word out to more tall guys!

i'm only 5'8, & it's the most favorite pattern i've used since some of the older pattern sherwood's in the 90's.

Yeah he does, he wears his equipment just like him.

Umm...my guess is 6'5" is out of the range for this pattern I guess, sorry Mack. But hey, didn't you say you regretted buying it as soon as you saw it in person? Sounds like poor research : )

Hey is the stated lie of 4.5 is actually accurate? I read on the board that some Warrior Lies may not be what they claim to be.

Also would the tapered Warrior blades fit in a R2 XN10 intermediate shaft?

Thanks

Whip

the lie is very slightly less than a modo/fors. its tough to actually see, but i was pretty convinced it was there. it has a rocker to it, so that may play a part.
