thenextone 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2006 I'm originally from Canada and I'll be moving to sunny Miami, FL this January and I was wondering what the roller hockey scene is like? I've heard there are a number of outdoor rinks, but i'm eager to get on an indoor sport court type rink ASAP.Anyone from the area here? Dante2004 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2006 There is a rink (2-ice 1-roller) facility in Lake Worth. A bit of a drive...but they have lots of tournaments come through. Probably have a decent league there as well. I have only played tournaments there...so I cannot speak for the league scene.www.pbskatezone.com I think?FIU, Miami Dade CC, Broward CC and Miami (University) have roller teams...so they must practice somewhere. I heard within 40 minutes (Deerfield??) there is a Sportscomplex that houses a sportcourt rink.If its not too much trouble could you give me a few rink names for me to look up? I've had a lot of trouble going on google to find places.I know there are a few outdoor courts here in the area, are they polished cement? I guess the best way for me to get into it would be to go down to the rinks and make some friends. I'm hell bent on playing hockey in Miami...i've been away from it for too long. Briggy 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2006 I live in Palm Beach 20 minutes away from Both Skatezone(Lake Worth) and Sports Mall aka The Sports Complex(Deerfield). Both facilities have Sport Court. I play Adult at both. Depends what age you are. I use to coach 14 and under over at Skatezone and the league was decent. The adult scene in Lake Worth has some really good teams. I prefer Skatezone to Sportsmall. The people who run Sportsmall are ridiculous and I have had problems with the people who run the place. If you need more info let me know. JR Boucicaut 3797 Report post Posted November 9, 2006 Yep, how can I forget about Skate Zone...used to play my college games there.MDCC has an outdoor rink - West Kendall RHC built it (I was one of the first guys in that league circa 1993) but it is not used for anything.There is Thunder Wheels on Flagler by FIU, and I used to play there in the late 90s but who knows if they are even open.I believe FIU used to practice in Hialeah back when I was playing against their college team.Contact them through http://www.secrhl.org/teamlist.phpWow...looking at the FIU roster...can't believe there are guys who are still there (I played CRHL in 2000), and guys I played with when I was younger...All of those guys on MDCC and FIU were mites and squirts when I was playing. WAMPS19 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2006 The Skatezone in Lake Worth is a bit of a drive but there is the Deerfield Sports Mall which is near Ft. Lauderdale. I know there are leagues there on Wednesday night I think and I play in Lake Worth on Sunday nights. It is an hour and a half drive for me coming from the Melbourne/Palm Bay area. Yuck! Iron Mans are basically quick games with one less guy. So, if a game is 3 15 min periods, Iron Man games are usually 2 12 minute periods. Also, it's usually 3 on 3 or 4 on 4 (depending on the size of the rink). Most tournements only allow you to enter 1 or 2 guys to make changes with, if any at all. MDE3 0 Report post Posted January 1, 2007 Ironmen tournaments by definition allow no subs for the skaters or goalies...3 on 3 games were usually reserved for undersized rinks. Time of games I have seen vary...Usually from single 10 minute periods to single 15 minute periods per game. Thus a rink can host many teams, and each team still get's a lot of games during the tournament.
