bugscoe 2 Report post Posted November 10, 2006 I run an adult team and was curious about obtaining a sponsor to help cover with fees and ice time.Does anyone have any experience in getting a sponsor for a adult/beer league team? If so, what kind of money can be expected and what are the expectations that the sponsor would have of the team?
hocckey77 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2006 do you know anyone that owns a company/ business?
--notorious 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2006 Yes best bet is probably family of one of the members of your team (they own or close family member owns business) or maybe one of your own works. In my leagues the kids sponsor the teams with their dads company
jjtt99 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2006 Yup, you have to work an inside connection or your chances are minimal. We got $1,000 a year for two years from a restaurant chain because one of the guys on my team runs a franchise. He pulled strings and got the corporate office to buck up to help with jerseys in exchange for a shoulder patch and exposure on our team website. You can see the patch (sort of) in my pics here:http://www.modsquadhockey.com/index.php?showtopic=470&st=

jjtt99 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2006 Don't underestimate the cost to produce the shoulder patches...that's a mistake we made. I can't remember how much, but it was a lot more than we expected!
Biaggi 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2006 What I have done in the past is to go to a Bar that is close to the rink you play at, and talk to the owner and let him know that the team will come in after every game, and spend there money there. Depending on what days you play can mean a lot of buisness for them. If you play on Monday or Wednesday when they are generaly dead, bringing in 10-15 guys will boost their sales a lot. That is if you play with a bunch of drunks like I do.
BK 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2006 I was the Marketing Director a few years ago for BYU's hockey team. We had some leverage in that there were a lot of students who would come out to the game so we would go to companies who were fairly new in town who wanted to draw a college crowd and give them a few tickets. At the game we would sit next to them and answer any questions they had. We did a really good job and pulled about 10 sponsors. You have to have something they want though. If you are just a ho-hum hockey team where your only audience is your parents then you may have a hard time getting companies to sponsor you.
Chadd 916 Report post Posted November 12, 2006 talk to a local bar and promise to go there after games. With some of my teams they would have more than made their money back. The other option is to get a bar/restaurant to give you gift certificates for each guy as a sponsorship. Just don't give out the certificates until the guys are paid in full. Play it again sports is a good place to hit too.. They sponsor with matching hockey socks. Not much, but nice to have and it makes your house league team look a lot better. For those of you who don't drink, local burger shops are awesome too. Most of my team is Mormon so we go out to McDonnalds afterward. They even open their lobby doors for us after its closed. Not much of a sponsorship, but if we went to a small time burger joint I bet they would hook us up with something.
DamnLocust 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2006 If you work for a large company, they may be willing to help sponsor as well. My team's old jerseys were paid for by the captain's workplace, and instead of player's names, every jersey has the name of the company. We're getting new jerseys this year sponsored by a local bar. Roach 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2006 The bar and McDonald's idea sounds great! Thanks for the input, guys. I'm going to try this out myself!I have been minimally successful with the more affluent parents of certain kids on my team as well as the rink that we play at (before it closed down). Check some of the stores at megamall and robinsons. I bet there would be a few restraunts like Dads who whouldn't mind having a patch stitched on a jersey or two. Guy Incognito 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2006 One other option is to have your LHS sponsor you with jerseys. The LHS will get exposure with each team you play through a provided advertisement, and they get a great deal on jerseys and can design them however they like (within reason). That'll save about $60/player and on a team of 15 that's a $900 sponsorship.
