New Pants - Easton, CCM, RBK

Recommended Posts

I am looking for something a little more protective than my Tackla 800's (Canadian model). I have fallen twice on the same hip in the last two weeks and the hip padding just don't cut it.

I used to have a pair of CCM Supra 520 which were great. Here is what I am looking at...

Would the new CCM 692/892 compare to the old CCM's?

What about the Easton Stealth S5?

Are the RBK 6K just a gimmick?

Should I move up to Tackla 5000's

Thanks

I loved my 520s, fantastic pants. As JR mentioned the x92 series is similar and they're much better than the x52 series. That said, I love my Tackla 9000s.

If you want good protection and lightness go for the Tackla 5000's they are incredible. If you want phenominal protection and are willing to go to a slightly heavier pant go for the Easton S9's. The Easton S5 might also be a consideration, not as heavily padded as it's S9 cousin but still good protection and also a slightly lighter pant. It's also a little more reasonably priced.

Thanks for all the replies. Some good advice... I noticed nobody had anything to say about RBK. I'll try to find a pair of 5000s over the holidays

Thanks

Sounds like you are going for the Taklas but for the sake of discussion....I have had the RBK 6Ks for a couple of weeks. They are OK. Good = light, fit well and the belts allow to pants to be snug and not move too much. Not so good = large areas of non-protection, the need to velcro/unvelcro thigh pads seems like it will be a weak link.

The hip pads are stiff and sized for a good amount of protection. It is nice to be able to snug the thigh pads a bit but like I said earlier it requires the unvelcro the pad to put on the pant, revelco, reverse to take off. Thats a lot of wear on the piece most likely to break down. There is zero protection on the back of the legs, and a large area of the upper thigh/front of the pelvic bone that is unprotected. That's OK for adult league but look out othewise....

If you like traditional pants, you will not like these. The 6ks will work for me but I kind of wish I had gone with a more traditional pant

my $0.02

Thanks for the info MEhockey. Sounds like a lot of maintenance with those 6K. I think I will go with Tacklas but I will take a look at the X92 line of CCM. I have tried on the Easton S5 but they fit larger than the Tacklas/CCM in the same size. Once you get used to a certain type of pant, it's hard to change...

If anyone is interested in the older style CCM Supras, there is a nice pair for sale on Ebay... not my size :(
