RBK 5K

Recommended Posts

I went to my LHS yesterday and came away with a pair of RBK 5k skates in a size 8 D width. Evn though I had to go with a wide size in Graf and Bauer ( 6500)

the D width was a perfect fit. I have never bought from a LHS before, always choosing to buy online, thus I have never had a pair of skates that fit me.

I would highly encourage anyone shopping for skates to go local unless you are buying the same skate you already have. Might be a bit more expensive, but after adding in shipping, sharpening and baking it's not much more. Add the cost of skates that don't work and you are $$$$$ ahead with your LHS. Not only did I go

OOOOOOOOOOHHH the second I put the skate on, but the pitch out of the box was perfect. I actually skated better the first time on the ice!

Three quick questions about the 5k

1) I was told that they could be baked, and that they could not be baked?

2) What is the early opinion on durability of the pump?

3) What is the stock rocker, 9' or 11'

I went from a pair of Graf 704's with a size 270 Tuuk to these with a 271 E-Blade. I can turn much better. The LHS said they were a 9' but I have sakted on a 9' rocker with the graf's ( 270 size tuuk) and I was pretty unstable, which I am not now.

Cool!! Thanks for the answers.

my son has used the 5k's for almost a year. He skates 3-4 times a week (minimum) and plays Pee-Wee AA hockey. The 5k's have been great for him, no problems with anything, the pump still works great. Theses skates have prooved to be extremely durable.

You picked a good skate, try skating in them before baking, his didn't need anything.

I just bought a pair of 5k this weekend too, these are one of the best fitting skates i've ever had on, and best bang for the buck too. my LHS baked them no problem.

pumps should be pretty reliable, they've been around for what, 20 years almost?

just take care not to puncture the air bladder with anything.
