LaceLock ond Bauer skates

Recommended Posts

When lacing the skates, I leave the three top eyelets loose (as I like to have good ankle movement). But I like to lace the skates tight in order to get a good heel lock. T

he problem I am experiencing with the three top eyelets loose is that the rest of the lacing will become loose during practice.

I use Bauers and I was wondering if it is possible to replace the eyelets with the CCM's LaceLocks. Is this doable? Has anyone done it?

Thank you very much,

H.

I've never seen a pair... I'm almost positive you can't just buy lacelocks...

I'd try some wax laces. That's what I used before when I had Eastons....

Wax laces are a nice upgrade if you are using regular laces

well, before I discovered the marvel that is the lace-lock (and the much wider RBK skates) these helped out a lot in keeping my forefoot a lot looser, and my ankles tighter while I was starting out.

Your lhs would probably have some lace locks but i'm pretty sure you wouldn't be able to put them on because the screw would have to go pretty far into the boot to keep it secure and i would imagine that you would be able to feel the screw on your ankle.

I can't do it or do I know how to tie it, but isn't there a way you could tie the laces down by the third eyelet from the top so that the bottom stays independent from the top three. I think I have read something like that on here. Waxed laces will help too, but I was thinking I had read something like that here or somewhere. It's like some kind of surgeons knot or something.

The lace lock piece is not something CCM invented..The exact piece is on numerous hiking shoes. It has been around for years. i am sure you would be able to find it at a shoe repair store. They would be able to install it as well.

what i used to do to keep a section of my skates tight without getting loose, is to put the laces in backwards. Instead of going from inside to outside, try lacing them so that the lace goes through the outside of the eyelid then across the tongue. it seemed to work pretty well for me, it just takes some time to get use to tightening the laces. hope that helps

Thank you guys for your answers.

I use waxed laces and they work for a while but not long enough. They give up way before they have serious cuts or they loose their tips.

Currently I do a double simple knot just before the three top eyelets (surgeon's knot). It works but it is not perfect. Because of all this I thought about the Skatelock (I just read that the correct term is Skatelock and not lacelock).

Thank you Dman33. Somebody in the past recommended me your technique and I tried it but it didn't work for me.

I know of several LHS that replace eyelets (including CCM's) so I imagined that it was possible. :-)

I didn't know about the screw on the boot. To do it just to find out afterwards that it hurts my foot it doesn't make sense.

We'll see. If after all I end up doing it, I'll will post the results here.

Again, thank you all.

H.

I've never tried this but what about using two sets of short laces per skate: one lace for the ankle and one for the foot? This way you could tighten or loosen the ankle and foot areas differently.

that would look really weird. you would have two bows from laces.

did u ever get lacelocks installed? i hated them on my vector pros, but its all pp

Another suggestion would be to once your done tying you skates just go around your ankles with clear tape at the area where you start losening your skates. It would kinda act like a skate lock.

put the lace through the 3rd eyelet twice. That's what I do, but I like my toes and forefoot loose and the top tight, works perfect for me.
