Anybody hear about Kilger's 106.6mph blast?

Recommended Posts

106.6 is great for bragging rights...but, it's one of the most mis-leading of the skill stats. When is a guy gonna get that kind of running start at a puck in a game.

I liked Al Iafrate getting 98 mph (or something close to that). Standing still, In flip flops on the synthetic ice set that TSN used to use a few years ago.

Having said that, It'll be interesting to see what the top guys do at the ASG.

Though I don't really like the guy, that's one good blast. I'd like to see what a guy like Kovalev would do in that situation.

They need to go back to the old Hardest Shot format, when players would qualify. For the past 10 years it's only open to the All-Stars.

It should be that way for all the times/measured sill events...qualify based on each teams individual skills Competitions.

Hardest Shot

Fastest Lap

Acuracy (which I believe is timed)

Keep the Relay challange, Rapid fire & Goalie Competition to strictly the All Stars.

What do you mean when the good players get the chance? They'll likely get what they usually do topping out around 102ish in the ASG. I believe Kilger's is a new world record since Hull's is unconfirmed. Beat Steve Heins record of 105.2 and Iafrate's NHL record of 103ish.

By "top guys" I mean the guys who everyone thinks of when you hear hardest shot...I doubt Kilger would come to many minds...before now.

Kovulchuk, Blake, Souray, Phaneuf...those guys are kind of known for their shots...it's been a couple years since we had a Skills Comp...Aucoin (woodie) & Souray (OPS) tied last time, so it'll be interesting to see what happens this year. Maybe 106.6 will stand...maybe not.

Didn't someone in VanCity hit 102-103 last year in the teams Skills Comp (Salo maybe?)

Iafrate hit 105.2, Heins hit 106 in the IHL ASG.

Actually, anyone that is a Leafs fan knows that Kilger is known for having a hard shot

and yeah, he even said himself that if he were to ever get that much time to skate and wind up he hopes he would score......that said, maybe he be in the next shootout and pull a Rolston

I've been saying that about the hardest shot and fastest lap for years. Gartner would have won at least another couple speed titles if they hadn't changed the rules. I do think they need to make sure these aren't minor league guys who win the competition though.

Gartner was in the ASG that year, wasn't he?

Thanks for the clarification JR.

All of the guys you mentioned Radio are known as goal scorers for their shots. Kind've like McCabe.

Yeah, I suppose point shot Goal Scorers don't necessarily mean hardest shoters (although the 2 usually go well together)

...What DID McCabe get in the Hardest Shot btw....?

Do you guys actually beleive the radar gun was entirely accurate? I mean its Chad Kilger

Yes, because alot of the other numbers were lower than usual.

Even if the gun is off and his 106 is really 101....McCabe's 95 is a 90...so-and so's 87 was an 82...he still has the hardest shot recorded that day...and I doubt the gun was out by 6mph...so he's still a triple digit hardest shot guy.

I not saying he has a weaker shot then others on the Leafs although almost everytime I see him shoot he just flutters a snap/slap shot form the hash marks way wide of the net but 106.6 for Chad Kilger?

I know he was a highly touted Jr. prospect but with his apparent speed and shot he should be cruising past Gaborik and teaching Souray how to shoot. Like Oberon said this guy gets like barly any points ( last year was his career high and he didn't even crack 30 pts) and its not an attitude problem thats stoping him so I don't understand what is or maybe his skills are being slightly streched.

From what I've heard, he just didn't produce offensively when he first got into the league. He was transformed to a defensive player, and he plays that role well. Having the hardest slap shot means very little about actually being able to score seeing as you get very few opportunities to fully release it. That being said, he lead the Leafs in even strength goals last year, and he received next to no power play time. It might be worth trying him out there, seeing as their PP is in the shitter as of late.

Im sick of all these Ponikarosky and Kilger haters. Antropov ok hate all you want but poni and kilger are solid defensive players. Poni +15 and 3rd highest scorer on the leafs.******last year

I'm not a Poni or Kilger hater. Hell I'm not even an Antropov hater. My current hate is geared towards McCabe and his $7.5 million in cap space. Poni has the potential to be much more than a defensive player, he just needs to find his game.

Like kosydar said, having the fastest slapshot in pratice means nothing in a game. You can place the the puck exactly where you want it in pratice and you can even take 5 seconds to concetrate on your "swing". Guys that can fire fast and hard are a lot more efficient.

I, for example, have a hard slapshot in warmups, pratice, etc. but in a game, my shot is weak and inacurate because i have to fire faster than i'm used to.
