Question on skate sizing, going from player skates

Recommended Posts

OK, so I was looking for a pair of cheap used goalie skates, but I don't know how they fit compared to player skates.

I can get a pair of Koho 490 skates cheap, used but usable, in size 10D.

Now, I skate in Bauer Supreme 10 D player skates, and they fit perfectly.

Since I have never tried on Koho, can someone help me out. I can get them for $45 so its not the end of the world if they don't fit, but if I could get an idea before I buy, that would be great.

Are Koho's based on the CCM tacks, because the tacks are too shallow for my feet, so I would pass if thats the case, I need a deep fitting skate.

Thank you

Goalie skate sizes are the same as player skate sizes but are still brand specific.

ie: 10D Bauer goalie skate = 10D Bauer player skate but not a 10D Mission players skate

Yes, the Koho goalie skate has the shallow CCM footbed.

Best bet is if you like Bauer players skates, get Bauer goalie skates.

OK, thanks for the advice. Thought I might have been getting a good deal to start out with. I have been talking about switching to goalie for a while now, but doing it incrementally, picking up a piece of equipment here and there, so figured that $45 for used skates was good.

Ah well, thanks again

netminders right...whether its goal skates or player skates, they are sized the same as the specific brands sizing. if you are a 10 d in a bauer, you more than likely be a 9.5d in a koho/ccm...same skate, different logo

i like my goalie skates half a size smaller than player skates. I really don't know why. So for me, I wear a 11.5 players skate(ccm 952 tacks), and a 11 goalie skate(ccm 652).

Don't skimp on skates, used skates are alright but you're better off buying new. Remember that skates are the most important gear in hockey. If your feet hurt you won't play well. Save up if you have to so that you can buy something that works best for you.
